Ok this is the second time ive had severe chest pain after ive been off my Prednisone for a few days. Just had a massive chest pain attack, my heart, neck and jaw hurt. A stabbing, shooting, pain that goes through to the back and in my neck and jaw. Its a gradually gets worse from beginning to end of episode. If i try to stay calm and breath myself through it, it slowly goes away. I have had 5 attacks now, and im terrified everytime. I can't afford to go to the ER unless im absolutely dieing then no choice. No medical insurance, i have to pay cash ack. So ya im a bit worried. Im thinking the RA has started attacking my heart.

Has anyone had this problem?

Thanks Morticia

Hi, I think it is important that you go to the ER and have this problem looked at. With having the 5 attacks it could be affecting you heart.

Morticia,

I have to agree with everyone else.  Get to the ER or a doctor AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.  You know what these symptoms are, it may not be that but you just can't take that risk.

Go to the Hospital and let us know.

Thinking of you,

Raven

The chest pains gone away, well its been 2 days since my last attack. Im starting to think its not my heart thats the problem. But acid reflux, i was reading that Prednesone can cause gastro problems. When i chew Tums it eases the pain. But yes you are all right i do need to get it checked. Hopefully I will win a lottery soon.

it takes sometimes months to wean down from a high dose. if you stopped abruptly i think that may be you problem? i would let your doc know via a phone call or ask your pharmasicist.

good luck i hope you feel better

Morticia.. do you have a hiatal hernia? The reason why I ask is 'cause I do.. and when my acid reflux acts up.. it feels more like a heart attack than anything.. most people experience a burning feeling with heartburn, but I get pressure in my chest, I get really flushed and I have a hard time breathing.. I have gone to the hospital on more than one occassion, and they ran all the tests (EKG.. blood.. etc) and it has been my GERD everytime.. they give me a GI cocktail and I am good to go.. I have to take Prilosec everyday, or else it acts up on me.. when you are able to go to the doc again, you may want to ask them about this.. good luck to you..

Yalinda, ya i weened off it as i was instructed. Im thinking the pred is just to strong for my ticker to handle. When i was on it about 6 months ago, i had the same chest pains after i finished the cycle. I think im ok now, its been a few days now and no more chest pain. Im gonna tell the doctor about it, no more prednisone for me.

I'm having very similar issue going off prednisone (medrol dose pack) now myself. I already have GERD and take PREVACID and know what severe heartburn feels like!

I took my last prednisone pill today, about 12 hours ago and right now I am having very wierd and intense chest/back pain. Definitely feels more like gas/heartburnish than anything else though. I felt the same thing last night too (the day I was cutting down from 3 pills to 2). I think this is some kind of body adjustment/side effect of the prednisone, as I am getting off it, like withdrawal symptoms (?).

Dude. Goto BCBSM.com and buy some health insurance. I have all kinds of preexisting issues and am over 40 and I pay $220 for an insurance policy which covers my hospital ER visits 100%. I know about being broke but ante up the $200 - I think I paid just $130 to get the policy going than get to the ER. Also try ehealthinsurance.com - That may have been where I originally bought my policy from now that I think about it. What good is money if you're dead? I think I'd rather have bad credit and alive and getting treated than good credit and dead.

I had a similar issue and it was related to upper GI problems. Felt like chest pain, shortness of breath feeling like I was about to pass out. Went to the ER and all was normal. Turned out that years of ibuprofen had caused problems with my GI. The doctor told me it was common especially in people regularly taking NSAIDs and felt identical to heart attack and that I did the right thing by coming in. I was on 40mg of prednisone daily at the time.

Im glad I went even with 3k in bill to pay off it was good to find out it wasnt my heart and helpful to know that Ibuprofen and I have to part ways. The hospital has been awesome about working with us to pay it down. Dont take chances when you feel like that get your butt to the ER and let the professionals do their job. I hope you feel better.

Well, this thread has been dead for awhile but I had to post this.

6 day pred for tendonitis in hand, gave me swirly soreness all over chest and back, thought it was indigestion. Was so intense wife and I thought I was going to have a heart attack. I'm 39, by the way.

3 days after scrip ended, sharp pins in upper left chest at 3am. Only a second long, maybe every 10 minutes. I waited it out. After a day, was still there, plus a flushed sort of feeling on that side. Off to the ER. Vitals, EKG, x-ray, all was fine. Went home.

Two days later, just watching tv, now a tiny pressure on the chest, mild sensation in jaw, tingling in left bicep. Back to the ER. 3 days there, stress echo, regular echo, CT, tons of blood drawn. I'm fine. Everything's good with the heart. Thyroid a lot lower than should be, but everything else fine. Go home. Told the usual about changing diet, lose about 40 lbs, thyroid meds.

Here I sit, those little pulses to my heart area still going on, every few hours for a couple minutes. So even if this post isn't seen for a couple of years, hopefully someone I know will update if I'm expired or not.

Oh, and my hand still hurts.
