curley, so sorry to hear you are in such pain and the stress of your sister i am certain is only adding to the tension in your back. i think it is a great idea to try some therapy for your back and perhaps learn better body mechanics so when you are helping your sister you dont further stress an already inflammed area. best wishes to you and your sister. still thinking about you. hugs keep us posted. yally

(((((((((((((HUGS CURLY))))))))))) alright, i'll give my personal experience only on this one...from the AS i had horrendous back pain & spasms too, THE ONLY relief i got {comfortable & manageable at least} is from A) a TemperPedic Mattress  B) a TENS unit  and C) making sure my abs are as strong as possible.
the pain meds & remicade has helped it too.
i was on 5mg of Valium for 3 years & that was THE ONLY thing that alleviated the back spasms.

CURLEY: Today was my first day of therapy. The podiotrist sent me because of the swelling on my toes after surgery on both feet. Anyway the therapist was more concerned with the condition of my ruptured disks, osteoarthritis . osteoperosis ,and lack of cartliage on my knees. He told me I should have been sent years ago by one of the many doctors and specialists that I have been to in the past. Told me they could really help me and after the three weeks that the podiotrist sent me for. I should ask my pc for a referral on the rest of my body. Actually they did'nt do much for my feet they started me on a physical exercise program on entire body. Ice -Heat -Elect. current- stimulators etc.. I felt really comfortable about the whole experience. I was reluctant to go at first but now I am really glad I went. Hope you try it and it is helpful for you . I know it's going to really help to strengthen my back and legs. Who would have figured it would take a podiotrist to tell me I need therapy. And of all Dr.'s an ENT recently told me I had GERD which no one had ever diagnosed, plus TMJ, That Dr. is recommended my pc put me on med. for GERD and my dentist make me a new mouth piece so I don't continue to grind my teeth at night. Well good luck and keep posting. june

Been there for years with my spine. Was in hospital and morphine couldn't get rid of the pain. Was in bed for 9 months then started to walk around with a walker. After several months, was in bed again for 4 months.  Decided to try out a Chiropractor. Within 1 week, I was able to walk and run into a small shop for 15 min. I was human again. I go on a regular basis now. I did cheat and stopped for a month, but then landed up in terrible pain and back in bed.
I'm not a doctor and I'm not saying a Chiropractor will help you but I'm just stating that it helped me. (I've very recently come down with other problems). I have TMJ which he helped, etc..etc..If you want more into, just ask me.
