Hi guys,

Trying to keep this short as I can...I have lyme and am now being tested for ms.  I just had a recent mri of the spine and had one couple of years ago all clear.

Now I have dessication of disc at L4/5 and mild/moderate spondylosis and loss of space at that level...I also have mild spondylosis degenerative disc disease at the the other lumbar levels.  My joints have had issues in the last 2.5 years with lyme issues it comes and goes...

I am 38 and think this is really a fast deterioration considering there were no abnormal findings prior to 2 yrs ago.  Blood work seems ok not showing RA to date.  Also mentioned was full thickness annular tear at 4/5...I did just have a baby (my surprise miracle baby!)  I had undergone gamma knife radiation on a benign brain tumor found incidently in my quest for diagnosis of lyme..and had a picc line in my arm for IV antibiotics at the time for the lyme...no one knew I was pregnant.  The tests prior did not show I was pregnant.  Must have been really early pregnancy.
My little lad is now 5 months old...my oldest is 19!  I I think the tear must have happened during labor as there was a point as my waters broke I felt as though someone had hit me across the back with a baseball bat and I was screeching for a couple of mins till he moved down I guess...
I am due to have a spinal tap on WED.  I have left numerous calls for the neuro as I am not sure if it is going to be possible to do as it might be tainted with the dessicating disc and tear...not sure if something leaks out or what.  I have foci in the brain  that just appeared in the last 6 months and lots of neuro symptoms and we are trying to establish if lyme kicked in MS or if it is just the lyme... what a darn nightmare!

so.... is it unusual to have the spondylosis at my age?  I am not terribly over weight and have not been lifting lots of weights or anything...

Does the tear have to be fixed?...posterior full thickness tear..

Could the lyme have caused this?  Is it arthritis?

What if any thing leaks out of a tear ?   where does it go?

What is treatment if any?

Who treats this?  neurologist? orthopedic? Rhumy?

lots of questions!! I have looked up some stuff but am really not getting too much info...not even sure what the annular tear is...

Does anyone have arthritis due to lyme?  I know lots of people who have developed it as a result and I had mainly muscle issues then it moved to my hands knees and elbows and now seemingly my spine...

I was taking plaquenil but have come off all meds for a while till we figure this whole mess out

Thank you for your patience with all the questions.  I frequent the lyme forum and now Ms...hopefully I won't have to ask for help at another!  Have too much to deal with already!!!!!!!!  HELP!!!!

Thanks again,

Hugs,

Carolyn

Hey there Carolyn, welcome to the forum! Boy do you have a lot going on! How are you feeling? How long did you have Lyme before it was diagnosed? The reason why I ask, is because, yes, the Lyme could have caused you to have arthritis.. if it is left untreated/undiagnosed for too long.. If you look on some of the older threads, the other Moderator on this Forum, Erin, has RA because she had Lyme for so long that went untreated.. In short, no, you are not unusual to have spondylosis at your age.. I have it and I am 34.. The bloodwork for RA can come back negative, even if you have it.. it can be hard to diagnose.. How long did you take the plaquenil? What are you taking for Lyme? hang in there, and come here anytime! We love new faces!

Thank you so much Ducky :) feeling like I am hanging in there! Not sure how long I had lyme but do know it took 13 drs before I got a diagnosis! I took plaquenil for only a short time few weeks and stopped as I am having tummy upsets and want to wait until after the spinal tap tomorrow. I have taken 2 yrs antibiotics including 4 months or so of IV. Every turn seems to be another issue!

Thank you for your welcome :)
