Hello i am sorta new to the arthritus forum, not new to healing well, i know i have arthritus in my knees, and both have had operations to help. Im 39, I have known I had arthritus in my back to, but not to what degree , i need help intpreteing my report which says severe facet arthropathy at the L4-L5level with prominent vacuum phenomenon.  My docotor doesnt know i went i got my own report and copy of cd of my ct. My PM doc just looked surprised and said umm severe on both sides kinda in a suprised tone, and put me on zaniflex , this in addition to tthe loratab 7.5 twicw aday which aint cutting it, and phenergan, i get nasuea alot from a gastro disease I have.
It does say the L-4-L5 and S-1 levels compatible with changes of Degenerative Disc Disease.
Ok I know i hurt real bad, sometimes very difficult walk, i do my stretches every night to remain limber.
I want to know how fast does DDD progress, I know everyone discs degenerate. But this reports is saying there is a severe change fromlast year, is it gonna severly change like this every year.
I can feeel the changes too. what is prominent vacuum phenomenon and severe facet arthropathy
I have had facet injections, and they did not help.
Please help translate, thank you in advance. smurf

Sheryl,
I am sorry I don't know anything about this type of arthritis or its treatments. I am sorry you are going through so much and getting so little help from you doctors and medications. I hope things improve for you soon.

Sheryl, have you been to a Rhuematologist? I have had facet injections also (facet arthritus) and they only mildly helped. I also have DDD and undifferentiated spondyloarthropathy (cousin to Ankylosing Spondylitis but no fusing.) I am on Enbrel now and mobic and it does help. Are you really stiff in the morning for quite a while, or after sitting for a while? Does exercise help?
If you have already posted about all this, I am sorry, I am not on this board very often. My advice is if you haven't already seen a Rhuemy, you should see one.
Good luck!
Gail

Did the Rhuemy do blood work? I would try going back to your Rhuemy, or a new one, and have them look at the ct scans and do blood work. Have you been tested for the HLA B27 gene? This is not in itself a diagnosis, but with all your problems ( gastro included) it sure wouldn't hurt to be tested.
Unfortunately, many doctors still seem to believe the Ankylosing Spondy. is a man's disease. There are MANY women with it also. (or one of the related diseases like what I have) It is a auto-immune disease. Have you been to the website Spondylitis Association of America? If not, here is the link to the message boards, you can learn a lot there. There are many women there who were told they have fibro because the doctors thought this was a man's disease.

You actually can have a negative HLA-B27 test and still have AS or related disease's. Why not try seeing a different Rhuemy?
I wish you luck in getting results. Being in pain all the time is very hard.
