Hi all,
Started taking Enbrel three weeks ago - third injection yesterday.  First one was amazing - more energy and back pain alot less, but my sinuses have been really bad.  Then after the second one I got a really bad cold (was going around work) and didnt notice anything like the first week.  Over cold now and had third shot yesterday and today am sooooooooo tired and grumpy and everything hurts.  Just a grumpy old woman!!! And my sex drive has gone completely.  Today after work I just went home and slept.  And the sinuses are still as worse as ever.  Is this normal?

Hi blonde
Yeh, sisus infections with our weak immmune system are really painful!!!!!!!
Sounds like you need antibiotics, maybe 2 lots!!!
Next time you have the slightest suggestion there is confused mucus in those nostrils
Do a nose wash 5-6 times a day!!!!
It will stop all colds and sisusitus- it is really terrific!
Good for all the family- safe- free-and easy!!!!
Check out the recipe under the "next Thread" about 4 jumps for here( you will find the words "next Thread" above you entry on the LHS, Click on this 3 times, slowly as you go to each site)
the thread you need to look at is "Mtx and sinus infection".
If you get lost, give me a yell and I will re-print it herefor you tongue
As to loss of sex drive, may be these drugs do take it away.........mmmmmmm
I haven't heard of anyone discuss this topic , but i can say that mine has disappeared

Thanks for that - will have a look at it.  Is it common to feel absolutely awful the next day after a shot of enbrel?  Have already had one lot of antibiotics for the sinuses.  They are a better today but my body is not!

dear Blondie
I don't recall feeling bad after my embrel shots, I actually felt like you did with your first one!!!
Maybe your immune system is just not up to speed, and so you are prone to have these hiccups.
I would suggest being real strict with your diet and making sure you get enough rest breaks.
In any case, call your rheumy and see what he says yeah
These drugs do lessen our immune system, so we have to be conscious of looking after ourselves.
As much as I enjoyed the benefits of more mobility and speed with embrel, I had to abandon it due to injection site
problems.......and  the same happened with Hirmira, so now I am on MabThera infusions every 6 months..........
Today I'm taking it easy........did too much yesterday( little compared to "normal" people) and the sinus prob. has increased. So I am taking my time, resting, eating no rubbish, drinking lots of warm water and rinsing my nose every couple of hours :-)
So catch up with the doc. and see what he has to say.
I'd be interested to know
I think he wouldn't be surprised that you are getting sick
And i think it is the sickness(due to your low immune system) that is making you worse with your rheumatoid
I know that if I am sick in any way, my rheumatoid flairs
Hope this helps

When you take enbrel, you are more susceptible to infections, especially sinus infections.  I also had trouble with it early on, when I first started taking enbrel.  If you have a sinus infection, you will need to get antibiotics to treat it.  and you will need to stop taking the enbrel until you finish up the antibiotics.  After a while, my body adjusted to the enbrel, and I stopped getting so many sinus infections.  I also started taking mtx with it, and my rheumy told me that mtx actually has a protective factor when it comes to the common cold, etc...  I haven't had a major cold yet, since I've been on the mtx.
