Hi again another question, i no doubtly have arthritis going on in my knees, my ct scan of my lower spine shows severe arthritis of the lumbar, and im only gonna be 40 in Jan.  My DDD has progessed severly in one year, so i wonder what next year will bring, I think losing weight may slow it down, I need losts of encourament to lose weight, I am having a very hard time, with swimming being my only real source of excerise, i have to wait for an over cast day or not so hot heat bothers me, even if im in the pool, i have to wear sunglasses in the pool. But its so much more easier to get some execise that I wouldnt have gotten otherwise.
Ok my question is, back in 06, so a little over two years ago I had lateral release done on both knees, so they would not dislocate anymore. An they dont, but they are in terrible pain, its really hard to walk up the stairs, and first thing in the moring very hard to walk down, my knees kill me. I can feel them like moving around inside there, can feel and here them creaking, and just a lot hars pressure on them. I am wanting to know if surgery on the knees can worsen arthritus, he shaved and cleaned out floating debri when he was in there. Anyway just wondering if these surgeries I had could have a part to play in why they hurt so bad now, i know my gain a weight doesnt help them either. But i see much heavier people(men and women) than me run circles around me and sometimes they are even older than me too. So its not all my wiehgt But my knees never crunched before the surguries, so thats why I think the surgies my be playing a part in this, but would others input please. idea

hey Sheryl.. a short answer, would be yes, surgery can 'enhance' your arthritis.. Hubby has had surgery on his hands, and the docs, each time he's had the surgeries, have told him, "ok, you're going to get arthritis here.. and here.. "... You have to remember that arthritis affects people differently.. just because someone is overweight, doesn't mean they have arthritis.. so if you see someone that weighs more than you, and they are running circles around you, they obviously don't have the ailments that you do.. or they're not in a flare.. the thing about weight gain, is when you DO have arthritis, it's easier on your joints and your body if you weigh less, 'cause it's less weight to carry, therefore, less strain on your already stressed and worn out joints.. I know it's easier said than done (I need to lose 50 lbs)...
