So good to hear you have the exercise bug, so good for you !!
But the pain factor ouch!!! Lets not have that!!!
Why don't you try deep water exercises-much less pain than on the ground, and with the water resistance more beneficial
I have a belt that keeps me upright and in good posture( very important) as i do the actions of walking , striding. star jumps( they are really T jumps so you don't sink) all on the spot with heels always down( no pointed toes) so you don't get leg cramps. As I warm up i can even pick up speed and run- it feels so good to get my heart rate up. i also punch the water with my fists, straight forward from the sholders and also up through the water starting from my sides.
Also think about posture, sholders back, stomach in, pelvic floor up, pull your head in!!
