Hello and once again, thank you!

What is a normal c-reactive protein level?

Mine is 5.9. My nurse practitioner told me it was not normal. My now ex-rheumy said the standards have changed and I am now considered normal.

OLD normal being 1 and new normal being 10.

If numbers had been this flexible when I was young I might have passed algebra.

Also, my sed rate is 29; is this normal or not? I do use birth control pills and I'm female, age 39.

Thank you!

A sed rate of 29 is slightly elevated for a female age 39. Reference: http://www.aafp.org/afp/991001ap/1443.html

CRP normal values vary from lab to lab. Therefore, without knowing the normal range used by your lab, I can't say if it is normal. For example, one lab I have had it drawn at uses the normal value as <.80. Another lab I have used uses this for CRP: normal range 0.0 - 1.5.

You have the right to get copies of your lab work. Ask the office of the prescribing doctor for a copy, then you can see for yourself!

When my CRP was 50 my rhuemy told me it was the highest she had ever seen but I have seen reference ranges for RA up to 200 during a flare.
When my SED was 30 my doc was really pushing mtx to get it to come down.
So those numbers are worthy of treatment and or investigation.
