hi all, i have been on 400mg of celbrex for 7 days now and the swelling in my fingers is not going away. does this sound normal? i had hoped that it would relieve ALL the pain, swelling and stiffness, but it has not. or does it just take a long time to work?
i am nervous about taking the celebrex in the first place and would like to stop as soon as possible. anyone familiar with this drug?

I never noticed any difference on Celebrex, and that is when we moved on to Plaquenil and the MTX etc. I have tried it from time to time and all that I notice is an increase in my blood pressure.

I also tried celebrex and did not notice much difference in pain relief. I can not take any NSAIDS at all now, because I have developed ulcers from so many anti inflammatory medication.

I have had both hips and both knees replaced, 4 disc surgeries, and am going in for the rotator cuff in two weeks.

I was on Celebrex for a while and noticed absolutely no improvement whatsoever.  Tell your doctor and you will probably be moved up to something better and stronger.  As for Plaquenil, I had no improvement with that either and had the added cost and worry with eye doctor visits...

Arthritis (poss. RA) - Doc scripts: Enbrel 50 autoinjector, Methotrexate 5 pills/week, Folic acid.

I agree, celebrex is just not strong enough on its own. I'm still on it, along with humira and mtx and am wondering whether I should now stop taking it. The biological agents really seem to work. I feel like a new woman on humira, I can run up stairs, no stiffness in the morning, all my swelling gone. My inflammatry factor went from 200 to 3 in a week! I'm afraid of the toxicity but the pain relief is sooo good, my life is so much better. If you have arthritis I think you have to weigh up quality of life vs toxicity all the time and try to minimise the effects with healthy living and added vitamins and exercise. Goodluck!

I have also tried Celebrex many times, but it does not seem to help me much either. Several years ago, I had tried Bextra (which is also a COX-2 inhibitor and similar to Celebrex)....the Bextra worked great for me! But just as it was really helping, it was pulled off the market. I did not notice any high blood pressure while on it, either. However, Celebrex did raise my blood pressure.
