Christmas day was busy. Lots of people. Lots of fun and food.

Many times through out the day and evening I almost asked my husband to take
me home. I didn't though. I smiled through it all. No one knew I was in pain.

Anyway, I'm still not better. I just keep getting worse. Is your arthritis like that?
Do you have arthritis flares.

It feels like my shoulder is detaching or something ... oh, the pain. OW OW OW.

I have avoided surgery so far (6 years) Maybe my time is coming? Most medical
people have told me to avoid surgery until the time comes when I can't walk or
can't control myself.

I don't want to take anymore Opiod medication. I don't know if my body would
even take it. My doctor has been good about trying to keep up with my pain
needs.

Oh yes, I get flare-ups of worse pain all the time. Today, actually, I am feeling much worse in most of my joints. I am sure it's due to the weather, though. I do notice the weather seems to affect my joints and it also affects my nerve pains sometimes. I always have some pain, especially in my spine and hips, but then there are times when it gets real bad, then it lessens again, and so on. Out of all the meds i've tried in the past, the only ones that really seemed to help this pain were bextra (now off the market) and steroids. The steroids are a miracle med for me, but one can't take those all the time. I've tried Celebrex, but it does not do much for me and I've tried many other anti-inflammatories, but those don't help either.

My arthritis is more of a deep achy feeling and sometimes with swelling. My joints also feel very stiff. When I do get sharp pains, it is usually nerve pain, though. Do you know if you have nerve compression in your neck? That certainly could cause sharp pains..

Baybreeze,
Seven years ago an EXCELLENT physical therapist said, "If you're not careful
you'll need shoulder fusion surgery." Oh groan, I think the time has come.

Very rarely does my arthritis cause "aching" It's always sharp with osteophytes and
nerves being attacked.

Sometimes I think I have a form of Lupus because at one time my ANA was sky
high and my CPK was too. about the CPK, the doctor said, "Did you fall off a truck?"

Last night was one of my most miserable. I don't know what to do. If I complain
to my Pain Doctor I'll be sent through the mill of Orthopedic Surgeons and Neurologists
I have already done that and have decided to take care of my problems with
medications. I'm not a good surgery risk.

I do appreciate you guys responding. It makes me feel so not alone. I wish
I could give all three of us just ONE day painfree for the New Year.

Baybreeze & Kara,
I wanted to let you know that I"m better.
Apparently what I was experiencing was a flare.
I really really thought I'd reached the end.
I still have plenty of pain but
the intensity is way way down.
It's almost a new year.
Have a good one.

Oh, that's great! I'm glad you're feeling better now. Perhaps it was the weather causing your exacerbation. Even if it is nerve pain by the way you describe it as sharp...that, too can be exasperated by weather. I know it happens to me and I have a friend it happens to as well. Or even arthritis can flare up, cause inflammation in there, which in turn can aggravate the nerves. But whatever the case, I am glad you're better. Maybe that is a good sign for the new year!
