My wife is freaking out over her prescribed meds and wants to get off them.  She was taking prednisone, methotrexate, and Enbril.  She got her RA doc to get her off the metho and pred due to her adverse reaction to them.  She wants off the Enbril too.  Our family doctor is very intelligent and he seems to think that she is suffering an enzyme or vitamin imbalance causing her flares.  This conflicts with what her RA doc says.

She sees that I am able to handle my colitis without meds and wants to do the same.  I tell her it is a risk I take and dangerous but she is rather insistent on the matter.  I don't know as much about RA as I do UC so I'm trying to learn more about it.  Healing Well is a treasure trove of knowledge from real people with real experience.

My question to those of you more learned in RA than I, does anyone have experience ditching meds in favor of more natural methods of controlling her RA?  Is anyone currently controlling their RA w/o medication?  If so, how?

Thanks in advance for any information shared...

Some one on this site mentioned an alternative treatment for RA, they'd been on it for something like 15 years before it stopped being as effective, but in my experience once you are on the biological agents it's really hard to come off them. I just started swelling everywhere after being off humira for only a week. My advice would be for her to line up some sort of cross over period rather than just stop her meds. hope it works for her. I take vitamin D as well as calcium, magnesium, fish oil and zinc, all to try and detox my body from the mtx. I feel much better since I've been on the supplements. Goodluck.
