Hi,

I've been taking Sulphasalazine for over 3 months now with no noticeable effect. Has anyone found it worked for them after this period of time?

Thanks.

I took it years ago and cannot remember how long it took to work.

I only took it for 5 weeks before I developed a severe allergic reaction to it (not that uncommon with that drug), but I understand it can take several months for it to work. Since it's been 3 months for you so far, why don't you ask your doctor when you go back in for your next visit. Your body must be tolerating it well, or you wouldn't have been able to take it as long as you have.

Best of luck to you,

Scottish, I just started sulfasalazine about 2 weeks ago but my rheumy said it could take 3 months to start working.  I'd ask how long they want you to wait before deciding it hasn't helped...I'm curious about that also and don't want to waste too many months on something that isn't helping.

Yep, my consultant and another rheumatologist told me if it didn't work after 3 months it wasn't going to. The same consultant, after having taken it for nearly 4 months, told me to take it for another 3 months.

Sorry to hear that, Scottish.  You've already wasted 3-4 months, why have to suffer that long again?   If it were me, I'd say no, that you want to try something else, instead of suffering for another 3-4 months.  But, it depends on what kind of relationship you have with your dr.  I'm not afraid to speak up to any of mine and they seem to respect my opinion.
