Good morning,
A few weeks ago I went to the doctor for pain and selling and little bumps on my fingers. He tested me for ra and a host of other things. Even did w-rays of my hands. Luckily it was all clear and he said to take 400 mg ibuprofen in the am and pm and see if it helped and it may still be arthrits. WEll, I did that and it felt better, but now without the meds they still hurt, throb, swell and are annoying. I have osteoarthritis in my knees and my jaw
my question is this, can I still have RA even though the bloodwork was all good?

Thanks for reading.

Absolutely.

I would talk to him about the pain and other avenues to try to help the swelling and pain. If he's resistant to help you, you may want to consider finding another rheumatologist if that is possible.  There are other things you can try to find out regarding what can be causing the joint pain. It is possible to have pain without actually having RA - hormonal fluctuations, food allergies, illness, and other medications have all been known to cause joint pain.

Good luck, and let us know how you are doing.

Absolutely-even if you are going to eventually have positive blood work (and not everyone ever does) it could take months or years.
The medication is something you have to take daily to keep the inflamation away.

I agree with Sjkly and Camama, you can have sero negative arthritis like me and have perfect bloodwork. I think it was 2 years before my inflammatory factor showed up!!! But from symmetrical swelling and responding to arthritis medication they can treat you accordingly. You don't want to not treat it because it can cause permanent damage to your joints. If you still have swelling after 3 months then get a referal to a rheumatologist. I feel a bit disjointed today so hope that makes sense???

Thank you all for your replies. I will go back to the doctor again, if it doesn't let up. I am going through menopause and I hear it gives the joints lots of problems too, so that may be adding to it. I also work doing very physical things and lately havent been as busy due to the economy so my theory is that everything is tightening up. Does that make sense? If you suddenly aren't using those hands a feet like you were all the time, they finally tighten.

HOpe you all have a good day.

Good luck to you. Hormones can cause joint pain.

Hi LilmissD, unfortunately we're not doctors, but we can sympathise, RA can produce lumps and bumps, I have some in my wrists but so can OA. But please keep us informed. Keep asking questions of your rheumy. Are you on any meds?
Welcome to HW, golitho
