I am wondering if anyone on here has been diagnosed with this? The neurobloke says it's an offshoot of either RA or AS and presents as severe bouts of pain at base of skull and in guider areas of neck following through to the shoulder blade? I go for cortico-steroid injections about once every three months or when it's unbarable. The neuro fellow says in his experience pain killers don't work. Has anybody else gt this? I promise you it's a pain in the neck! tongue tongue tongue

EEK yes my neck hurts when my AS flares - to the point of not being able to turn my head to that side - it feels like if you move it you will snap something.
Not sure if painkillers work as Im unable to take anything but Tylenol (I have Crohns as well) but heat in the form of heatpads and hot water help.
Sorry you are having this trouble - hope your next steroid injection lasts longer for you :)

Thanks for the reply Sydney Jo. That's exactly it - trying to turn my neck is really, really painful. I never have a day without this pain, the injections help but if goes away at all it is merely for two or three days at the most and then the intensity gradually builds up again. I have found heat pads work too. The neurosurgeon tells me that when the facets in the neck and upper spine fuse and my neck stiffens into one position then the pain should go - but when that will be he doesn't say. I'm glad I've found somwone with same prob - well, not glad for your pain, but glad there is more than just me out here with it.
Thanks again
arthur

Hi Arthur, chat on the Chronic pain forum about it, I am sure I have come across it before on that site. I'm just starting with neck pain but I'm not sure if its RA related or not. More stiffness than anything, I am having PT to try and free it up at present and to help my hips. Its hard work but I'm hopeful...golitho

Arthur,
I think you are very brave to suffer with this constantly, I know I wouldnt cope quite so well.
Golitho suggestion about the Chronic pain forum is a good idea, relating to people who have constant pain too would be of great help - you never know you might get a good pain ease tip from someone on there :) Hope you are having a "less" pain day!
Jo
