First off its been awhile since I have been on the boards here so Hello to everyone.
Actually not much has changed since I was last here. At that time i was just starting Enbrel and had already tried mthx, and a few other meds. So the Enbrel helped a little for a bit then stopped working all together. I stopped taking everything for a few months and got real bad again with pain and inflamation to the point I couldnt get off the couch again, I got some prednisone from my sis in law and was basically acting as my own Dr. i know not good but I have been so disapointed with Dr's in general over the last 2 years that I thought I might as well just take care of my darn self! I was on the road to having wieght loss surgury and almost there when hitting a road block, now I have to start all over from the beginning. So in the mean time started to see a new Rheumy and he was an ass, saw me 4 times without even bothering to send for my records draw blood or get xrays!!! So I finally got in with my old Rheumy and she is putting me on Humaria and Methx. Like I said the Enbrel wasnt doing anything and from what I understand the Hum isnt much differant but maybe in comb with the Methx it will help me. The other option is to have the infusions of Remicade(sp?) but I work 10 hours a day so the time it would take to go to the hospital once a month is just not doable right now. When I have a day off I take full advantage of doing nothing LOL so I dont want to be tied up at a Dr appointment. But if all else fails I will be trying that next. I wish I could get some darn weight off I know that would majorly help ( i am a 300 pounder) but being on the predinsone isnt going to help at all. Why oh why is that the only darn thing that seems to help!! Ugh so I will be back on here more often so rant LOL No really I do enjoy talking to people that kinda have an idea of what I am going threw.

I am waiting on approval for Humira, as like you I dont think I could find the time for the Remicade infusions due to work, family, etc.
You gotta love/hate pred! I have been stuck on it now for six years as every time I try to wean off I flare again. Im hoping the Humira will help get me off the pred. I think the pred is the only thing that works for me too UGH.
Let us know how you go with the Humira.

It took humira and mtx to get me off prednisone. But also you still sort of suffer withdrawal from it initially. Even though I was weaned off it. Kept getting lots of extra aches and pains, seemed to take weeks before I feltmy body was no longer flaring without it but I feel so much better off it now. My advice is hang in there, I lost the extra pred weight pretty quickly, moony face etc now all gone. Plus I feel heathier somehow. Goodluck with the humira, took a couple of months to work for me but now I seem to have stabalised. I can still overdo it but the swelling has become so much better, golitho

Hey Kelly,

I totally feel ya! I used to be well over 400 and had WLS and then 5 years post op I was diagnosed with RA. Now my weight has shot back up over the past year to the 300lb mark since I can't exercise at all without feeling like someone ran me over.

I've not tried humara but I was on enbrel but one dose was not enough for my weight a week and insurance would not approve for 2-3 shots a week. So I switched to remicade. It worked BUT the 8 week intervals was too much. I'm sure when I see my doc tomorrow for my infusion he'll shorten the time inbetween.

I hope you feel better very soon! ((((hugs))))

I'm sorry to hear the Humira shots are so painful sad I took the Enbrel twice weekly and thoughts those were horrific! I do hope they get better for you, and that you get  to feeling better.
As for the Pred, sadly it is the only thing that does work and my rheumy has only prescribed it to me once, and it was fabulous! I had energy and zero pain, and I even cleaned my house, from top to bottom, instead of just a room here and there.  Since my diagnosis, I was pain free and I could sleep, so I took two or three at a time, but then I ran out, and called for more, after all it was just pred right?... wrong!! I didn't get anymore! Ever again, and I was lectured about the dangers of pred.  I have to almost be bed ridden with joint pain now to get pred, and then it is one of those Medrol dose packs, never regular pred.  My rheumy doesn't trust me with pred shakehead I can have pain meds filled on a regular basis...but never pred. I know it is not a good medication, and I know my rheumy is doing the right thing, but it does help so much.

Has anyone taken Orencia?
