Hi when I went to my rheumy doctor. She did a full exam of all my joints and the did a
blood draw. Then i got the results in a few days for RA. I also have Crohn's disease.
Hi, I am teddybearweiser, I am a male.
I was diagnosed with crohns disease when i was admitted to the hospital

in 1992, in Jan of 1993 I was back in the hospital for surgery for my crohns. I had part of my right colon resectioned with ilecolonstomy.

I have not had a confirmed diagnosis yet because all my testing came out negative, but I really have a feeling that I have RA mainly based on my symptoms. When I went to the rheumy, he checked all my joints, your doc may order Xrays and/or a MRI and do blood tests to find certain RA markers. It  was a couple years ago that I went and I think after the first of the year, I may be going back to see him to be retested since things have gotten much worse for me. I hope you find the answers to your hand pain. I know the feeling of not knowing what is going on.

Same as Jo. I had full xrays of my hands, hips and feet. Full blood work done and an examination of all my joints. Stood in my underwear while she went over my whole body, checking for swelling and stance etc. Weighed me, checked my gait, my range of movement and asked me lots of questions, type of pain, when it started etc.

Hope it goes well, a good rheumy is worth their weight in gold. You need someone who listens and is sympathetic, someone you can trust, I love mine but she seems stressed herself lately. Too many patients...
goodluck, golitho

Thanks everyone for your info. Golitho, i think the reason for the stress in the doctors is because in my area there is only one. So she has a heavy load. I have a good 2 or 3 month wait to even see her.

i have colitis as well....and my rhuemy just checked my joints, talked to me, drew blood and then put me on humira after blood results. He said the majority of people with colitis tend not to have RA as well. The joint pain and swelling is from the colitis typically. so that might be good news. My joint pain and swelling was so bad I couldn't walk some days, and it made me vomit from all the pain. You would have thought it was RA, but mine was peripheral/reactive arthritis. good luck
