I'm a new member, so hi! I've had RA for about 8 years and I'm on MX. In the past, I tried Enbrel and Humira and neither one of them worked. Now, I'm in a flair that's effecting my knee, and fingers, elbows, etc. Despite the prednisone, it's not subsiding. My doctor is talking about trying either Cimzia or Remicade. The research is not terrific on anti-TNFs after you have failed 2 others.

I'm mostly wondering if anyone has tried Cimzia and, if so, how have you reacted to it (side effects, success)? Has anyone tried Remicade after failing Enbrel and Humira?

Thanks in advance. :-)

Hi Aden,
Welcome to the Healingwell site, I'm sure you'll find most of your questions answered here one way or another.
As for Remicade I can only tell you my experience:  I was first on Humira for a year and that worked very well but not on all parts of the body therefore last October I was put on Remicade.  Since then it's been brilliant for all parts other than the real problem area being my foot/ankle.  I've been getting about 2/3 weeks worth of relief and then it slowly weans off and your ready for the next dose. Side effects have been 'hot flushes', feeling totally exhausted for 2/3 days after infusion and for the first 24 hours feeling like I've been doing a work out in the gym.  All these side effects are worth the treatment, I'm lucky I've not had any others to worry about but I'm sure some others will tell you their experiences and problems being on it.
I've been taken off Mxth since mid November due to high liver markers on my blood tests so at the moment the only drugs for my AS are the remicade! Hopefully in time the liver will recover and I will be put straight back on mxth or another similar drug as I need both to do the work.
I hope this has helped in some small way to answering your question. Keep us informed as you go, it's always nice to let off steam, vent frustions etc on here. A great source of information is here is you need it.
Happy New Year to you and may 2010 bring you relief in some shape or form.
All the best

Thanks Peggy! It seems like my doctor is leaning toward Cimzia, however the few user reviews I've read say that the side effects were weight gain and joint pain. Joint pain??? The users were probably using Cimzia for Crohns, but still. I finally have my weight where I want it and don't want to add weight gain to the mix. (I"m genetically predisposed towards Type 2 diabetes.) Anyway, if I can get through this flare in the next week, I may be able to buy myself some more time. Thanks again for your support and encouragement.
