Hi, I was just wondering if RA and Carpal tunnel are related in any way? I see alot of people on here talking about surgery for Carpal Tunnel. I have the thumb pain along with the joint pain in my hands. Sometimes it get really painful to just reach or grab for something!! I can feel it sometimes up to my elbow. I hope someone could give me this answer. Maybe they were told this by their physician. smilewinkgrin Thanks, Laura :-)

Unfortunately they are. Very common for RA patients to get carpel tunnel because of the swelling in our joints there is swelling in the wrist and the nerves get compressed. I had a nerve conduction test to check whether the swelling was in my wrist or from my neck and it came up as wrist.

But my meds were increased and the carpel tunnel resolved on them. Tell your rheumy about your pain. It could also be tenosynovitis which is what I'm now suffering from. Also common with RA! Oh the joys of living with this thing.

Your rheumy will know and hopefully adjust your treatment accordingly, best of luck, golitho
