confused  I have been dx with Fm almost a year ago. Have had three herniated disc this last year. The last 8 months I have had severe stiffness and pain in my hands and fingers. It is horrible after I rest or sleep(I can't move or open my hands) but it last the entire day. I have stiffness and pain in my elbows with sometimes sharp, shooting pain that runs down torwards my palms. I have throbbing pain in my knees and feet..mainly the top of my feet and toes. I get rashes on my hands but they turn into blisters. I suffer from severe migraines that wake me in the middle of the night a couple times a week. I am exhausted. I slept off and on all Sunday(for example of one of my bad days), felt sick to my stomach..like blahh all day, ran a mild fever. Sick to my stomache tonigh again. This has been something that has been increasing.I have limited movement in my knees and hands. Also I've had an extremely hard time opening bottles, using the hand can opener, etc. I don't want to have RA or any of that and I feel for all of you that do, but this can't be just Fibro. Can it? My Rhuemy has checked Crp levels which were elevated but ana and titer came back normal. No x-rays or mri's were done. Anyone have any ideas. I know you can only go by what you have been through. So I appreciate any advice or insight. Heather

Sounds like you have more than 1 thing going on. Some of what you talk about sounds like RA as it usually strikes in the small joints such as hands, wrists, ankles, feet first. RA is not what you would call a typical disease though- everyone is different. Are your sed levels also high? When I was dx's just my sed level and CRP was extremely elevated. I am seronegative for RF and ANA and now even though I still have pain MTX seems to have put my sed and CRP levels back to normal. Is your pain symmetrical? That is a sign of RA.
What does your rhuemy say about all this? Have they tried to have you take prednisone and see if that improves your pain?
All the best to you in finding out what's causing this so you can take steps to get better.

I have taken predisone for a herniated disk 3 x in the last 7 months and everytime the pain in my joints subsided. It didn't go away altogether but I felt less pain than I have in the last 3 years. My pain does affect both sides. I do have one than tends to be more painfull. Right now my biggest stress is on my pointer and middle fingers. I have sharp shooting pains from the joints down to the tips and it is very difficult to move them. It is in both of my hands, exact fingers but more painfull in my left hand. My Rhuemy said he noticed the crp levels(his rn did them, he didn't see the need) and he saw they were elevated more a month later, noticed the rash on my hands and feet and said anyways I guess I will see you in a month. I told him that this wasn't normal and i am in a lot of pain and really concerened, he said fine I'll up ur Tramadol to 100 a month..I was like uh it wasn't about that because truth be known it doesn't help. He said anyways again I'll see you in a month. He has not ran sed levels. I'm looking for a new Rhuemy.

sounds like a good idea to get a 2nd opinion-if it is RA you want to get on a good DMARD fast! All the best to you!

I agree with you. I think I need a second opinion. I just wasn't sure if it might but what I suspected. It's a gut feeling that it is RA or something along that line. No-one in my family has Ra( although we supsect that is what my grandmother may have had before she passed) but a lot of auto-immune diseases run in the family. Lupus being one of them. I don't think this is what it is. I don't know though, of course I am no doctor. I just need some answers..... and for the pain, and limitted mobility to stop or ease up. Thanks again.
