Hi, I am looking for some advise.
I am a healthy 28yr. old with the exception of this new problem.  I have had 5 wonderful babies with no complications.
about 4 wks. ago i woke up with itchy rash that traveled from arms, body trunk, and back of the head and left knee pain. Saw my doctor and was told I might possible have some arthritis in the knee.  X-Rays said I have "minimal sclerotic changes".  I have never injured this knee and it has never bothered me until that day.  Benadryl and Claritin for rash wich did go away 5 days later.
2 days later I wake up early morning due to severe pain in my left knee, left hip and left shoulder.
The pain was so severe It took me 40 min. to finally roll out of bed, crawl downstairs and call for help.  I had to get a rag to stuff in my mouth beccause I was screaming from pain.  I have had 2 babies naturally didn't scream and can honestly say this pain was worse.  I have NEVER in my life experienced such a pain.  I have had kidney stones but that was nothing compared to this pain.  Finally my sister came over helped me get dressed because I was unable to move my left side without screaming out in pain.  Made it to ER, screaming out everytime the car hit a slight bump or with every turn.  Couldn't get out of the car when we made to ER, my husband lifted me while I stuffed a rag in my mouth and screamed for my life, made it into the wheelchair.  ER doctors gave me 6 doses of Dilauded (very strong pain med) with not much help.  My whole body started to get numb and I couldn't breath anymore due to the high doses of pain meds yet the pain inside my left hip joint would not go away.  Finally after about 5 hours of pain I was given a dose of Prednisone 20mg and started to feel a little better.   I was sent home with a walker since I could not walk on my own, pain meds and Prednisone.
For 3 weeks I was talking Prednisone 20 mg per day and it would last me about 20 hours as I start to have the sever joint pain.  I have shoulders , wrist, fingers, hip and knee pain.  The pain is very symetrical.  If left hip hurts today the right will hurt tomorrow.  Same for all my joints.  I get swelling in the joint that hurts, red and warm to the touch and my veins look like cords by that joint.  I had blood cultures, parvovirus blood test, RA, ESR and everything was negative with the exception of C-reactive protein wich was at 2.5H.
Anyways, to make his long story short I tapered off of Prednisone, was off of it for about 5 days until I started to get the joint pain again.  Rheumatologist suggested I get back on Prenisone wich I am currently doing.
Rheumatoligist does not know what is causing this joint pain, he does not think I have RA since he said I recovered too fast!
Ahhh, it feels good to get this all out.
Any advise would help and I would love to hear someone elses story with how they where diagnosed with RA and if it does sound like this might be the cause of my pain.
By the way I do have an uncle with RA.
Thanks :)

None of that sounds like RA. You had a rash with onset of symptoms-not typical of RA. Pain/inflamation in joints traveled from day to day-not impossible with RA but not typical.

What this really sounds like to me (keep in mind I am not a doctor) is reactive arthritis-or a systemic infection.

I have to agree that this sounds like Reactive Arthritis to me. I have a disease in the same family as Reactive Arthritis and some of your symptoms fit. Has anyone done a MRI of your hips or sacroiliiac joints? That might help figure out the problem.

There is good information on Reactive Arthritis here: http://www.spondylitis.org/
Click on the bar towards the top that says about SPONDYLITIS. It will take you to a section that describes the different diseases.

Thank you for the response.  The doctor thought it might be reactive arthritis but he said my symptoms don't match.  They did check for GC/Chlamydia that was negative and I have had the same partner for the last 9 years.  Another thing ReA symptoms are : (1) inflamed joints, (2) inflammation of the eyes and (3) inflammation of the genital, urinary, or gastrointestinal systems and of the 3 I only have one inglamed joints so !?!?!!?  Well I am on a tapering dose of Prednisone and feeling better so hopefully it was all just a bad dream and I will be al well and healthy again.  They did do x-rays of my hip and knee and per doctor eveything was normal with the exception of a minimal sclerotic changes in my knee but they say this means nothing!?!?  Again, Thanks to all that responded.

Inflammed joints, sorry.
I did ask for an MRI but doctor said he does not see a reason for it.  I went to Kaiser Permanente and they are known for limited/not too caring medical care.

Hi, I was looking for the answer of my traveling pain too. It was similar- one day my elbow was swollen, next 2 days was fine and my knee was painful and swollen that how my polyarthritis had started... The pain wasn't VERY bad at the begining. I couldn't believe it was it as my blood tests were normal. Doctors couldn't tell either as it was a liitle bit strange. After one few months of "traveling pain" there was more consistency and all different kinds of stories, I started with Meloxicam and finally after a year the blood test showed RA.

Polyarthritis - diagnosed July 2010, suffering from May 2009

Prednisone - 10mg/day, Plaquenil, Vitamin D, Fish Oil, Isoniazid - getting me ready for Humira, also Prednisone shots ocasionally.

Thank you everyone who took the time to read and reply.
I was started on Prednisone 20mg and took that for 2 wks. as soon as I got off of it the pain started again and my Rheumatologist put me back on a tapering dose of Prednisone for about 3 wks.  I have been off of it for a wk. now and so far have been feeling great with no pain.  I am hoping this was some type of a virus and a bad dream that is all in the past.
By the way Prednisone is an awful drug.I will never take it again unless I am on my deathbed.  Went through many withdrawls and a 9 lb weight gain in 1 month.  Very depressing but as I said it is all in the past....yeahhhh!!!!!
