Yesterday my physio gave me an SI belt (well, once I paid for it of course).  I have bad SI joint inflammation along with inflammation of the piriformis muscle.  They said to wear it when sitting and to start with a few hours a day.  I tried it this morning at work and found that my back ached where the belt was...different pain than the daily back pain I get.

Is this normal?  Is this just an adjustment period of the Si belt shifting things (or holding things) in place?  or should I not feel any different?

How tight are you wearing it? I've never had my belt cause me any grief except some skin irritation.

Hi kazbern.  Guess it was tight, but don't think it was pain just from wearing it too tight.  My mid lower back ached...almost like it was being pulled together .  Hmmm..or maybe it was from being tight.

What exactly are Si belts supposed to do?  I thought they were to provide support when walking, but the PT said it was for sitting.

I don't wear mine when I'm sitting. I do try to sit with good posture and both feet on the floor, but frequently it is pain in my SI that reminds me I'm slouching. I totally use mine for support when I'm jogging or walking long distances or doing any kind of exercise involving a step up or down.
