Hi, everyone! I belong to the anxiety/panic forum, but since my doc keeps adding problems that I have, I have been branching out. He is currently waiting on blood tests to rule out lupus and RA, so he can diagnose with fibro. I know I have costochondritis, my breastbone hurts/pops, very tender to touch.
He took xrays last week to look at my lower back, for what I supposed was the herniated disc that may have gotten worse. Now he's telling me that I have degenerative arthritis. I saw a chiro a couple months ago who told me that I had no degeneration yet. Eeeeekkk.... when docs disagree, what do you do? My doc also told me that I have "lost a curve" in my spinal column... whatever that means.
Right now I feel like I'm bruised all over ( no actual bruising, just feels sore), and like someone yanked a drawstring in my back and pulled it tight. Can't release this feeling of pressure thru my spine. Being treated by PT for neck muscle damage... a muscle is stretched and causing hypermobility.
Is that a normal symptom for degenerative arthritis?
Thanks.

Hi Sarah, I just wondered if you have ever at any time in your life suffered from psoriasis.

If you have make sure they also check you out for psoriatric arthritis.

I had a bout of psoriasis in 1990. It went away after two years of light therapy, PUVA treatment. The psoraisis has remained inactive with no signs of it. I had it on one foot and one hand.

I have been diagnosed with fibro for the last 15 years and OA. Last August a specialist in Toronto also diagnosed me with psoriatric arthritis and I will start Humira shortly.

It is just a thought, some of your symptoms sound so much like mine. I still have fibro btw. however the rheumy says the fibro will be easier to cope with once the psoriatric arthritis is under control.

Best of luck. I will keep you in my prayers. judy

Hello, Judy, and thanks!! No, I've never had psoriasis. I've only been seriously ill three times in my life, gestational diabetes while pregnant, nasty bout of bronchitis, infection turning septic ( failed miscarriage) ... that's where some opinion that I developed the fibro from.
I go to PT today for the first time since the doc found the arthritis/fibro. I'm sure my therapy is going to change significantly. If they will even continue to see me, they are more of a rehabilitative therapy center, for injuries and such.

Hi Sarah,
Are you seeing a rheumy for that? I have cervical degeneration and what the doctor is saying cervical osteoarthritis which I am not so sure about. I do have the joint bulging which I did confirm with the doctor on the Xrays and obviously to the touch however I have not had any injuries or anything that I can remember that would have caused this. My doctor is really scratching his head because I am only 29 but has not suggested a rheumy to make sure its not rheumatoid. I'm at a loss.

:-)  hi Sarah,
hypermobility is typically seen with the soft connective tissues. can it be from arthiticies?....probably yes if there is RA and muscle inflammation, and since you said a muscle has been streatched it sounds about right! with degenerative discs, they should not be guessing. nono it is clear cut with ct scans mri's and xrays. perhaps a better picture is needed. did the chiropractor see the films? i hope something works and you find good answers.
chostochondritis stinks. it's awful. mad i hate the popping and pain every time i turn over too. it's painful to the point where i can't breathe fully or talk and eat. i'm 23 and have severe RA, on enbrel but most likely moving up to remicade. i've 7 bulging discs so i know what you mean about trying to relieve the pressure confused sometimes i want to hang upside down from my toes tongue from the ceiling just to relieve that pain.
i wish you lots of luck with your bloodworks. arthritic and auto immune dieseases are tough to crack because of the very not-so-specific testings! i hope all works out well for you and you do not have to wait much longer.
lots of luck & take good care
