For a few weeks now I have been suffering from swelling, pain and a very pronounced raised and inflamed bump right on the top of my right foot. Increasing my prednisone has had little effect. Icing it seems to help short term. Wearing shoes and walking or standing for any amount of time has me in pain all night. I don't seem to be having any other significant joint pain, so I'm not sure it's RA related, although it sure looks like it. I see GP Monday, so I'm thinking it's time for a referral to podiatrist. Unfortunately that means travel since there aren't any locally. There are drawbacks to living in a beautiful rural area, and that's one of them.
Has anyone had the same experience that was or was not RA related? If it was a knee or wrist, I'd get a shot of cortisone. Can you get a cortisone shot in the top of foot? It's painful to even think about it!
Thanks for any input.
I sure miss being able to zumba turn

I had my foot xrayed today and blood work for sedrate and to rule out gout. I might be able to get a cortisone shot once I get results from diagnostics. This has been one heckler of a flare, if that's what it is, and I was glad to have a weekend to sit ony arse.

Haha! I'm glad you're getting it taken care of and I hope the doctor can give you some idea of what it is and what you can do to relieve the pain. I haven't had anything specifically like that but I do get similar weird pains in various places that I don't think is RA but I don't know what it is.

It's probably not a bad idea to have a podiatrist - they might be able to zero in on the problem more accurately than a GP. I have one and I couldn't imagine my GP having the knowledge about feet that he does.

I hope you're feeling better soon.
Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in 2005 and rheumatoid arthritis in 1998. On Remicade since 2005 for both diseases. For UC tried sulfasalazine, Lialda, colazal and others which made me ill. Started 50 mg. Imuran July 2015. Use peppermint oil capsules and Bentyl which help during a flare and with IBS symptoms.
