Is it possible to have hair loss after just one dose of injectable methotrexate? I had hair thinning from the pills a couple years ago but it happened a couple months after starting the drug. Back on it now and I seem to be "shedding". I started it almost one week ago. Does anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Mustang, I have been on MTX for about 5 years now. I had hair loss but it began after being on it for about 3 months and then tapered off over time and it then came back in. I imagine that it is possible for this to happen since it is a side effect but I have never heard of it before.

I would call the office and ask the nurse about it and what if anything can be done to help. I know there are some supplements that can be taken to help with this but I do not remember which ones.

Take care -Don

Hi Mustanng,
Are you taking folic acid? That's supposed to help offset the SEs and it sees to work for me.

Celebrate life,
Yes, on 1 mg of folic acid. Maybe a higher dose could help? I don't seem to have any other side effects at this point.

Thanks weary. The side effects have been awful this week. I had my second shot and was really nauseous for 2 days. I never actually threw up but the first 2 days after the injection I only drank water and ate a couple crackers. The next 2 days were ok, I was nauseous but not as bad. I know I could stand to lose a few pounds but not like this! Please tell me it gets better????

Honestly when I was on MTX I did not get digestive troubles. I felt tired, had a bit of hair loss, brain fog-but manageable.
I used pill form and always took it after a full meal. Drank a lot of water every day while on it. Took folic acid supplement.
It got so much better for me that I am now on plaquenil which is a much milder drug to be on.

All my best- keep the faith!

Hi I have hair loss on Methotrexate tablets and was switched from Folic Acid and put on Leucovorin you could possibly ask your Doctor about it I think it is a stronger type of folic acid , for me it has slowed the hair loss a little seemed to work great at first but now about a year after starting it I have hair loss again but I did get regrowth in odd places ( my lower legs and under arms ) but no regrowth on my head where I wanted it
