I have been on three different medications for RA and the only one that has made any difference is mtx. Enbrel made me worse in combination with the mtx. Now I'm supposed to be taking plaquenil and mtx but the plaquenil caused severe stomach issues. Have any of you had so much problem with your meds that nothing worked? How many more medications will it take to figure out what I need to be on? It is really disheartening and I'm tired of switching back and forth. I know something should help me. I hated the enbrel it was painful to inject and I felt like it made my RA worse. The mtx still helps but only to some degree, the plaquenil, it was bothering my stomach so much I was practically on a liquid diet! Everything I ate made me sick. I was that way for over a month. All I could eat was veggies and smoothies. Anything soft was ok too but couldn't be greasy at all! What can I try now? Any suggestions to talk to my rheumy about
Thanks

What about remicade? I use that and it's worked pretty well for me. Celebrex also helps. Everyone is different - what works for one can be completely ineffective for someone else. Methotrexate made me really sick but Enbrel and plaquenil caused no problems at all. There are several other drugs you can try so don't give up!
Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in 2005 and rheumatoid arthritis in 1998. On Remicade since 2005 for both diseases. For UC tried sulfasalazine, Lialda, colazal and others which made me sick. Use peppermint oil capsules and Bentyl which help during a flare and with IBS symptoms, and turmeric, krill oil, CoQ10 and Methyl B12.

I am not yet diagnosed but treated as if I have ra. I am on arava right now. Seems to help the pain better than any other medication I have been on. I am sure there is a drug out there than can give you more relief. Sorry you are suffering and so sick with some of these drugs. Good luck!
