I was wondering if anyone has had success with a tnf biologic after being on one for years before it stopped working. I took humira for 13 years before it stopped working, then enbrel for 2.5 months. It didn't really do anything. Dr doesn't think it's worth trying a third biologic. Just wanted to know if it worked for others? Thanks

When I get my remicade infusion there are usually 3 or 4 others there also receiving infusions, and over the years I had heard many say they were on one biologic but switched to another because the original one stopped working. It seems fairly common. What does your doctor suggest instead? If I were in your shoes I'd try another one. If it works it could benefit you greatly, but you won't know unless you try.

My doctor switched me to enbrel, but after 2 1/2 months discontinued it bc it wasn't working. I just took my first injection of orencia 5 days ago which seems to have set off a major flare of my RA. I don't know how or why it would do that, but it did! Very discouraging. My doctor is out of town till Friday. I will talk to him then to find out why I'm reacting to the orencia like this. I'm afraid to take my 2nd injection.

When are you due to take the second injection? I would probably wait until Friday after you talk to the doctor to do anything. Are you taking any other medications, such as methotrexate or plaquenil?
Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in 2005 and rheumatoid arthritis in 1998. On Remicade since 2005 for both diseases. For UC tried sulfasalazine, Lialda, colazal and others which made me sick. Use peppermint oil capsules and Bentyl which help during a flare and with IBS symptoms, and turmeric, krill oil, CoQ10 and Methyl B12.

I'm due for my 2nd dose this Thursday, so I might as well wait till Friday until I speak w him. I'm currently not on any other medications, except Celebrex, and now prednisone for my flare. I noticed most ra patients are taking metho and other drugs. Now I'm wondering why my doctor hasn't had me try them too. When I was younger I did take plaquenil (?) but had to discontinue it due to side effects.

Maybe you can ask your doctor about getting on methotrexate. I found it hard to tolerate but many people use it. I wonder if your doctor (and you) have considered remicade. There is some leeway with the dose which is good. Just a thought, if Orencia doesn't work out.
