You've been on the synthroid since last March and you don't feel a difference? How is your hair? Is it brittle? Does it fall out? What about your weight? Have you gained any? I know you said that you have been fatigued... and sensitivity to light / heat? Anything like that?

a-hah  a-hah...we're all on at the same time!  scool same time zones?

are we lame?  :-) all home on friday nite? yeah weeeehooooo....party on! yeah

oh, leelee....are you new on the Synthroid as well?

i have hypothyroidism (but choosing to ignore it  nono  i know shame on me)  and the Synthroid gave me heart palpitations and tachycardia.  just a heads up. maybe the dose was too high for me.  heart just beat really fast.  didn't like it!

hypothyroidism ADDS to pain!  did ya know that?  yeah, if your thyroid is low it can cause increased pain sensitivity and more painful ligaments, muscles, and tendons.  interesting. is the same true for hyper Ducky?

ciao!

Yeah that's bad... a Friday night and this is our highlight huh? :) I did not know that if your thyroid is low that it can cause increased pain sensitivity.... since I have had my thyroid taken out, I have been hypo thyroid... interesting... will have to look into that one... good to know... thanks Erin...

Hahahh Thanks. It is great I can go back to see that thread. I gained lots of weight from being inactive and having the low thyroid and eating. ha Welll I have had this weird hair problem on my face. It is fine fine blonde hair but like fuzz????? mannnnnn but no my hair never fell out, but I got the thick skin on my feet and my nails are horrible. Does this thyroid thing have anything to do with the Autoimmune diseases? it seems a bit strange that everyone has that prob. Well maybe not everyone, but lots of people. I am taking the 112mg of synthroid.

hey gals,

i actually don't take my Synthroid at all.  too fast of heart beat & hit the floor once.  my doc never brought it up ever again.  in fact, i was never retested with my thyroid since.  i know...i'm not a good patient and not a good example.  but then again...my cholesterol, which i feel is a more important issue than my thyroid, is sky high....yet no one mentioned going on a lipid lowering Rx.  the cholesterol thing has to be metabolic or genetic.  i don't eat meat, no dairy, no junk food....but i produce a lot of cholesterol.  whole family does on father's side.
i don't know...i'll talk about the Synthroid @ next PCP and see if it matters.
the RA and Crohns consume every ounce of energy & the med regime is exhausting.  i hate pills!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my heart realy goes out to the newly diagnosed RA people.  it's been 5 years for me officially diagnosed and i tell ya....it doesn't get easier.  you adjust better over time, but it is truly a day by day disease.
i'm still scared about my future.  working?  i wish.  i hate the idea that i might not be able to.
i really never thought this would happen.  had a WHOLE DIFFERENT picture of what 25 would look like!

hang in there Morticia....every day as it should come.  same to you LeeLee.

Ok, I just read your post about hair... LOL LOL I have often wondered why I now have hair on my chin?  Just makes you want to say WTF?  Well, my esthetician likes it, I end up paying her more to get rid of all the unwanted body hair... pretty soon, I'll be signing over my paycheck... First gray hair huh?  I have a whole mess of them... next time I go in for highlights, I have to have a base color first, then highlights... now that's bad... eyes

Hey LeeLee, yup this thyroid thing is an Auto-Immune disease... isnt' that GREAT?! eyes And yep, you can chalk up the extra hair on your face, nails and thick skin to that also... Not only has our metabolism slowed down to a screaching halt, if go untreated, we get to look like 3 toed sloths... but hey, I'm not bitter... tongue

Wow Morticia, you're on a lot higher dose of Synthroid than I am... I am on 175mcg daily... My doc says I'm still in the normal range, but I don't feel like it.... I am always tired.. and my hair is very brittle... I think I may be normal, but on the low side of normal, know what I mean?

Well Ladies, it is Saturday morning and I've got a ton of stuff to do... here's to a pain free Saturday.. Duck

Erin,

You must have your Thyroid taken care of, it can make you extremely ill if its off and you dont take meds for it. With me when im late on my Synthroid etc... i get the following reactions

My neck cramps and stiffens right up
Hair falls out
tired all the time
Mood swings
Headaches
moments of blindness and hearing loss
Cant think straight

An untreated thyroid can lead to brain damage in the long run. Get them to switch u to a differant brand of meds if needed. Thyroid is a major part of the bodys funtions, if you can get it straightened up you might feel a bit better in certain aspects.

Get them to do the blood test girly :) trust me...... you will feel better.

Yeah, Erin :) now you knew all that plus. :) I think you have ignored your thyroid because of having all the problems that hurt so much and seem to be more important that you have put it last on the list. I have to get mine checked every three months to make sure I am getting enough synthroid and not too much. I did read where it regulates all sorts of important things in your body :), but I know that you know all that. Don't ignore it any longer just because it doesn't seem as urgent as the things that are causing you pain. Now I remind you of this because my three months check was past due February 6. :( HAHA Yeah, I have been way too sick to consider it. I will go next week though. It sounds like you may need something besides the synthroid or less or something. You can't be falling out with it and having your heart racing. It could be though that you no longer have a low thyroid. My doc said that in some cases, hypothyroidism changes and you no longer need the synthroid. He said that is why it has to be checked. My hypothyroid prob showed up for the first time when I tested high positive RA in March. I have to say I had forgotten about my thyroid problem entirely. We want you to get yours checked NOW though. :)) Maybe you don't even need it anymore. If you do, you have to take something for it. You are such a help to us. You would tell us this same stuff. :) LeeLee

nono  i know, i know....you both are right & read me well.  sometimes i do not practice what i preach!  and you're right.  i chose to ignore it or rather "make believe it's not there".

so here's what happenned.  bloodwork came back & yadda yadda yadda....need Synthroid.  was taking the tiny tiny microgram pills.  one morning, like 2 days into treatment, a while after taking it my heart went tachy at over 200 beats per minute..felt like i was going to hit the floor.  next day same thing...and the shakes.  so i attributed it to the synthroid and basically said, ****that!

and honestly, i do know how a low thyroid can make a person feel & what the effects of it are...but i do put it at the bottom of my list.  i mean, being sick for so long....sometimes something comes up and i'm like..."yeah well and?" eyes
like with the chiari malformation i have...i'm supposed to be getting MRIs every 6 months to a year to check for growth etc...and it's been 2 years since last MRI.  i feel, i'm going to get a brain scan to find out what?... it's still there?  and if worse, go to a brain surgeon?

i should open my mouth and inquire about a lipid lowering med for cholesterol cuz mine is very high....but i haven't done that yet either.

i don't know...i just want QUIET time ya know?

i'll throw in a TSH panel @ my next bloodwork & see what my thyroid level is.

i'm sure you can understand a bit where i'm coming from with this.
we've all have things to work on eh?

how's your weekends going?

I totally understand where you are coming from Erin... seems as though it's hard enough to deal with the stuff that is in your face right now (i.e., the RA and CD) that the other stuff that doesn't bother you so much (hypothyroid, chiari malformation), takes a back burner... I know it all too well.... maybe the levels were off the first time they tested you, since you don't show a lot of they "typical" hypothyroid symptoms... like you said, get a test the next time you go in and take it from there... good luck to you... :-)  awe Duck....i know you understand.  yeah ya know....the doc never repeated the TSH and thyroid panels ever again.  confused i mean, fatigue?....well i know i've fatigue from the RA, immunocompromised, CD, and pain, etc... and my hair has thinned, but not "falling out"  i mean sure i shed like a cat! LOL.  and my skin has just begun to go whacky with lesions and patches and dryness.

it's so much to tackle like what you said, just the things that are in your face.  but i've PLENTY of bloodworks in the next weeks & since it's free (thank you Medicaid!)...i can ask the doc to stick in any odds n' ends.

speaking of HUMIRA and RA.  man...my injections are starting to HURT!  mad i've been shooting in my abdomen since august.  running out of spots?  seems like it's not going in as easy and it's more painful.  and believe me...i give a great shot! this too shall pass i suppose.

so LeeLee, how are you doing?  things getting better?

cool

eyes  so erin's sittin' here waiting still.  i think i want to add MTX to the Humira, Imuran combo for RA.  not making progress i want.  it has been 7 months since on Humira.

is it worth bringing up yet?  or should i wait another few months while still taking Humira weekly and the Imuran (only on Imuran a month 1/2).

gosh, i feel like i'm getting no where! eyes and concerned about the future.

worried & not sleeping,
erin

Awwwww yes. thanks. I am finally much better. It seems I have my immune system back and won't be having to go to the immunologist. I am still on the steroids and will be until March 19th. I am feeling no pain much at all. Now though I have to go to a neurologist. You may have read where I told about that on the other topic. Anyway, thank you, thank you all, for helping me stay sane or almost ;)) sane during all of that horrible time. I had someone to look at my lab work that I did 8 days before taking that first Humira. My immune system was shot to sh** at that time. I should have been having blood improvementsinstead of starting the Humira or anything. And still I can't get over that doc not doing the TB test or ever looking at my lab report at all before starting me on the Humira. Anyone that has read my case needs to know that I had a very incompetent and uncaring doctor and was not physically able to start the Humira at that time. The doctors both said yesterday that I had a severe reaction to the Humira, but not an allergic reaction. It just finished off my already poor and low immune system and gave me septic rheumatoid and I began developing infections. I do believe I am okay now and plan to call the Humira ppl for an update. They told me to keep them updated. I have to say that they were nice and seemed to be concerned or at least wanted to keep up with me. ;))

funny you should say that Mad.... when i was 19 i had my first consult with a rheumatologist and this was at the time where it was an "iffy" diagnoses as yet because i did not have tremendous joint pain and was going through too many other medical emergencies that the RA was of little concern.  the rheummy said,"It's sad, but it seems like your sister and nurses and best friends are always the people to get RA....only happens to the good ones..."

funny he had said that too!
