Hello,
I've lived with my arthritis for 15 years but now it is becoming excruciating.  I had a bimalleolar fracture and years later developed arthritis.   I still walk but it is very difficult.  Is there any new developments in Ankle Surgery that has developed recently that I have missed.   Has the Ankle replacement surgery developed yet and has been tested ?  Anyone know of this or can send me a link on where to go for this surgery.  Thanks.  ric

Hey Curly, do you know anyone who has had ankle replacement? My sister's doc wants her to fuse her bones and not suggesting replacement (something about her age, I guess, too young or something?) - so, she is waiting and dealing with the pain....any personal testamonies I can forward to her regarding fusion or replacement would be awesome.

Good luck with your surgeries!

ahhh, I see...

She is 42 and they are pushing the fusion. She has trouble with mobility and is in a lot of pain a lot of the time. She was given a brace, but that immobilizes you and though it eases the pain, she doesn't wear it as often as she should as it causes other pains.

I had told her I'd keep an eye on on HW for her to find some personal testimonies from people who have had it....when she asked her doc for referrals, he only gave her a name or two of people who had JUST had the surgery and I believe one of the clients was elderly - not quite the testimony she wanted to hear since she has 2 small children and wanted someone with a similar situation as herself.

CA, if they fuse your sister's ankle she will have limited mobility of the ankle. If she has 2 small children this may not be the surgery for her. Anytime something fuses it limits the mobility. Hugs, Susie
