What other medications have you talked about with your doc? Ever talk about Remicade or Humira? They're both approved to treat Crohns and also RA (but it helps with the Crohns arthritis as well). Arthritis related to CD will manifest vertically, i.e. your neck, back, shoulders, hips,lower back, knees & feet. You might notice that when your Crohns flares, the joint pain will get worse as well.
For short term use, the pred may help & might be needed...but I really think the doc has to go into talks about other things rather than constant prednisone.
