My husband was diagnoised with psoriatic-arthritis four (?) years ago ... and is currently taking Celebrex 2x/day.  The pain has gotten unbearable ... to the point he has quit his job.  (He's a carpenter and feels he can't do construction anymore.)  I was able to get him to his rheumatologist last week.  The rheumatologist says the psoriatic-arthritis has stableized ... he's dealing with normal wear 'n tear osteoarthritis ... but the back pain is UN-related to the arthritis ... and that the longer he is unemployed the better the back will get.  John also has "gut" problems ... and I believe may have Crohns.  His doctor doesn't buy my idea that his arthritis may be triggered by - or made worse by - "gut" problems.  (I have this "hair-brained" idea, because I saw a rheumatologist six years ago for arthritis and was told "get the gut cleared up and the arthritis will go away".  Sure enough a colonoscopy revealed Crohns Disease ... I started treating the Crohns and my "arthritis" slowly disappeared.)  Anyways ... does anyone else have any thoughts on why one would be in so much pain even though the arthritis has "stableized"?  AND ... other than finding new doctors (we live in Northern New England, so specialists tend to be far and few between) what questions can I ask the new general practitioner we see next week?

Thanks for any input ...

Hey Kia, sorry your hubby is having such a hard time... but yes... you are right on the mark...maybe he needs to go to a different rheumy... He needs to see a GI doc to see if he does have Crohns... 'cause there is a Crohns related arthritis... there are a few people here that have it... It is odd that the rheumy has said that his PA has "stabilized" I didn't realize PA could stabilize. I suffer from it also. Another thing with PA is that it can affect your spine and you can develop spondylitis from it... I am curious as to if maybe that is what your husband is experiencing? If I were you, I'd see if you could get him in to see a different rheumy and see what that doc says... good luck to you, and let us know how your hubby is doing! Duck

Thanks for the response!  My little brain goes in many different directions when it comes to our health ... I try to connect one symptom to another ... compare my symptoms to his ... and so on.  So I really appreciate ideas and input from other folks that have similar issues.  Have a good weekend all ...
