When I post, I usually post in the Crohns forum ... but my interest right now is my husband's arthritis.  He was diagnoised with psoriatic-arthritis and osteo-arthritis ... but we've been told the arthritis has "stableized".  So why is he in such pain ... we ask!!!!  I've asked his rheumatologist and GP if there is a correlation between gut problems and arthritis and they look at me like I have a third eye.  When I posed that question to you folks last week, two of you were were kind enough to write back and say "yes, there could be a connection."  I've been on the website for the Spondylitis Assoc. of America ... they talk about Ankylosing Spondylitis and Enteropathic Arthritis ... and the connection between Crohns disease and Ulcerative Colitis.  Sooooo ... when you ask a doctor if two disease could be related, why do they look at you like you have a third eye??

Hey Kia... I remember your post last week... I have PA also, and it has affected my spine... I have never heard of arthritis "stabilizing" that seems like an odd choice of words that docs would use.... Let me do some more research, 'cause I know there is a Crohns related arthritis, there are several people here who have it. If I were you, I would take all that you find off of the internet and show it to your hubby's docs and say, "Here, it's not just me, there is a connection!" Let me do some digging and I will get back to you... Hang in there... Duck

:-)  Ok Kia - I found this:

What are the symptoms?

The most common symptoms of Crohn’s disease are abdominal pain, often in the lower right area, and diarrhea. Rectal bleeding, weight loss, arthritis, skin problems, and fever may also occur. Bleeding may be serious and persistent, leading to anemia. Children with Crohn’s disease may suffer delayed development and stunted growth. The range and severity of symptoms varies.

It came off of this website.  And this:

Peripheral arthritis

Peripheral arthritis is most common in people with ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease of the colon. Typically, the course of the arthritis follows that of the IBD, with flare-ups and remissions coinciding. There is no one test that can diagnose peripheral arthritis, but instead several tests including blood tests, joint fluid analysis, and x-rays are used to exclude other conditions.

That came off of another website on about.com... I would post the link here, but for some reason it won't work with this forum... anyway - Go to about.com and type in arthritis/ibd or arthritis and crohn's and it will tell you all about it.  Heck, you can type in Peripheral arthritis and you should get the results you need.

Print out those webpages and take them to your hubby's doctor and see what they say.  I think your hubby needs to look for a different doc.  nono Even if you make them aware, it seems like they may not know how to treat him.  Hope that helps some.. Take good care and let us know how you guys are doing!

Thanks Ducky!
I'm getting my husband's big book o'symptoms together and we're taking it to a new general practictioner Monday morning for a complete physical.  I don't doubt John has arthritis ... weather it be psoriatic- or osteo-arthritis ... I just wish the doctors could tell you WHY you're in pain and DO something about it.  I'm headed to the websites you mention and will download whatever I can find.

On a side note; I love the the healingwell.com website.  Everyone is always so helpful.  It's nice to know there are others out there that know how you feel and what you're going through.   :-)    Again, thanks for the help.  I'll keep in touch ...

Hey Kia! Anytime we can help, let us know! That's what we are here for! I agree, it is frustrating when you know something is wrong and the docs just dismiss it without a second thought... then later on when something gets diagnosed they say "Well, why didn't you say something?" So irritiating! Best of luck to you and the hubby! Duck
