Do any of you get relief from hotbaths or should i try icepacks. I'm hurting all over especially my  back and hips. The bottom of my spine feels like its on fire and i'm actually sore when i sit. Do any of you get redness on the skin as a result of inflammationn on the lower  spine.Just i seem to be very red on the skin and was wondering is this normal.
Hope everyone is doing well and thanks so much for your replies to my last post.

Hey Marty.... to answer your question, yes... :) I normally alternate between hot baths and ice packs when my back hurts... if the bath doesn't help, then I use ice... Ice is good to try and keep the inflammation down some... I also try to con the hubby into rubbing my back for me (doesn't always work) but when he does it, I feel much better... Here's to better days! Duck

If some joint is throbbing...I swear by ice.
If some joint is painful and HOT...I use ice also.
If it's swollen...ICE.
If some joint is stiff, painful, and hard to move...I use heat.
If I feel like muscles are invloved too...Heat.

I think I try to do the whole Ying and Yang thang!

Yeah the cold, gave me serious pains straight away but the hot baths seem to be a better option. Finding it hard to get out of the bed in the morning now because i'm aching all over. Do any of you guys wake with really stiff sore wrists and hands. My neck today too is really tight, i'm going to see my doc on Thursday to see about getting the injections to help with the joints. Does arthritis have times of remission cause i couldn't bear this everyday, the rate at which my joints are becoming affected is starting to alarm me. My little fingers on both hands are now starting to turn in really bad and my fingers are getting very wrinkly and dry at the joints.
My GP is a great guy and i'm sure he will get me back on track. So i will let you know his plan of attack when i get back from the appointment.
Erin i notice you take Diazepam too and that you have an IBD too. We could be twins eh?What dose of Diazepam do you take if you don't mind me asking. I've had to start on a high dose because of crazy anxiety problems, but i don't like taking it even though i have to.

Personally, I find a hot bath and/or heating pad especially useful.  In fact, I take a hot bath everynight and sleep with a heating pad.  But then, I don't have any obvious swelling.  If I did, as Erin suggested, ice might work well.  I'm afraid ice would make me too cold, though, and aggravate my raynaud's.

Hope your back feels better soon,

Elcamino
