I have been taking chondroitin and glucosamine for approx l year with positive benefits to my aching arthritic joints-back, neck and knees but have heard that it can cause an elevation in cholesteral levels...I was wondering if there is any truth to that?

hey maribella!
i'm not positive about the effects of the cholesterol level. i would think that on the list of trial experiments, if you look it up, they'll show a list of side effects and all and things like elevated lipid levels. mostly all medications and supplements have patient education somewhere online.
like, i know that omega 3 fish oil can raise blood glucose levels...so it could be that G&C can do something to cholesterol levels. i wouldn't think it would be drastic though you know?
i betcha the pharmacist would know!
or even if you go into one of those natural foods stores (the small ones) sometimes herbalists run the places and they're really knowledgeable.
if i come across anything i'll let you know.
if it helps a lot with the pain...i'de keep on taking it!
best wishes

for the first time in my life, i went to have my blood panels checked and now at aged 50, i found my cholestral which has never ever been belwo 350 was 211.

my doctor asked me how i did it. i told him i take celadrin for arthritis ( has salomon oil) and the highest it ever was, was in 1998

at 575. my doctor asked me if i wanted a ambulance now or later when he  read my test results. i have not been able to take statins as they give me the muscle soreness. i did nothing for it.  finally, i stopped eating red meats and junk foods. i began taking glousiame chrondroiton with msm and collegen, and celadrin. the celadrin has been the one thing that has helped the most. i ahvent been at 211 ever in my entire life.
the doc was flabbergasted at the results.
when i get a sugar craving i  eat marshmellow fluff as it has no fat or cholestrol rather than eating choc candy bars now.so i think that my taking celadrin, cutting out the red meats has done it for me. what works, is what works best
