I am just wondering if anyone else out there suffers with chrondritis.  I keep getting it mainly on my right side.  It is coming into the left side more often.  I can lift a gallon pitcher of tea and it will start.  You can feel the muscle (or something) crawl and bulge up in my rib cage. At first I thought it was my diaghram, but I have been told it is chrondritis.  It is very painful and almost parlizes you until the spasms quit. I get so frustrated that I keep getting somtethin else to add to my list of pain and complaints.  I would really enjoy ONE day without pain of some sort mad

Here is a list of my meds. I keep trying to decrease or eliminate some but then I get sick again.

Accolate 20 mg                        Albuterol  2 mg

Atrovent 2.5 ml                        Celexa 20 mg                           1 a day

Flexeril 10 MG

Florinef 0.1 MG

Fosamax  70mg

Lasix 20 mg.

Librax

Loracet 10 mg

Nexium  40 mg

Potassium CL 10 MEQ

Prednisone  5 mg

Premarin .0625 mg.

Tessalon Perles 100mg

Jbrat, I don't know much about chondritis except that it is very rare.  I'm sorry that you have to deal with it on top of everything else.  I suppose, though, that once you're on the right inflammatory drug (whether it's a dmard or not), the chondritis should go into remission as well as some of your other problems?  In any case, I hope you feel better soon.

hey Jbrat,
costochondritis is AWFUL mad EVIL devil .
it's terrible to try to deal with on top of RA & other conditions.  the part i hate the most is how it interferes with my breathing.  literally cannot breath in fully, so ya gotta lay there & take slow shallow breathes all day or while it lasts.

i put LidoDerm patches all over my chest & ribs; i use a heat pad; and i put some pilows under my arms for support while laying on my back but reclined somewhat.

hot tea too! and try not to move, speak, eat, breath! lifting? forget it...bending? forget it.

actually, when i was in my last months of Enbrel it started to get a little better.  i still get bouts of costo, even on all of the meds i'm on.  but thank God it doesn't go on for days.

i knowhow ya feel.

Erin, Thanks for sharing with me. I don't wish having this on top of everything else we all seem to have on anyone. Just lifing a gallon jug of milk can make mine flare up. Then it takes weeks to ease up. I do have the lidoderm patches. Now, I also have a broken foot again, o th left side and bursitis in my right hip! Can't seem to get ahead.

I have used the pilows so I can sleep or try to get soem sleep. Luckily my headborad on the bed is slated. I use it to help me turn over. It is odd how we take things for granted until we can't do them on our own anymore. I did 4 loads of laundry today and it just took all of it out of me. It is hard to try to do household stuff using a walker.

Good luck on staying pain free.

Oh boy do i hear ya! lifting and laundry sets my costo into a frenzy. today?...tried to get my laundry done for the weekend, went to the docs, and walked home. the pounding of each heart beat felt like a puchto the chest. but, i've been quiet as a mouse all nite & took my meds so the chest & ribs are tolerable.

i give you a lot of credit for doing the things you do.
be well.

Thanks Erin. I am paying for it today as well. I went to be about 6 last night and just tried to stay still and rest. I go back to the pain clinic next Friday. Just a medication refill but I might try to get another shot in this old hip too. The steroids has already ruined my body, so I geuss the shot can't do anymore harm.

I hope you feel better soon. J

cool  goodmornin' Jbrat,

i hear ya.  same with me.  my immune system, if no one knew any better; resembles that of someone who sufffers froms AIDs.  WBCS? gone. T-cells? gone.  starting to get pneumonias. bleeding from everywhere. and all messed up blood disorders.
but you know what?  like you said....what else could possible be MORE WORSE than the condition i have been living in for the past severel years? eyes
damage is done.  so whatever helps?  I DO IT!

after all of this...i'm probably the happiest i've been in a long time!  my insides are worse, but i can walk!  :-) and like you...i see that med list!  HOLEY COW!  but me too...if i count right it tallies @ 30 pills a day on my side plus 2 hiddeous Liquid Draino like potions (to keep away obstructions).

hold the phone...let not my post here be a downer! LOL. geesh, i just read it and boy is it sour. tongue but it's reality.  when a disease goes untreated for way too long?
i definitely empathize with you Jbrat.
good luck with your shot and i truly hope it brings some relief.(it's a steroid shot right?)

do you get XRAYS done regularly to keep check of your hips and all?
with osteoporosis, do you feel the steroids weeken your bones further?  or don't ya really give a fart anymore? tongue   just asking for my own knowledge as to what docs think about steroid therapy with osteoporosis.

you're a tough cookie.
sincerely,
erin

 JBrat:

I get boughts of costochondritis and pericarditis.  The chondritis lasts for months.  Thank you Erin for you input on medications.  The ER usually just gives me shots of Toradol and a nerve blockers when I get it.  I hate going into the ER every week for a month or so just to get shots.  I'm going to ask about the other medications your taking.  It is gone right now, but I remember the pain, blood pressure problems, trouble breathing and passing out very well.  Feels like the longest muscle cramp in history and worse in your ribs and chest.  It is very scary and dibilitating.  Try and hang in there.  It seems like a long wait. The joints  and muscle inflammation are painful but nothing compared to this.  I was always afraid that I would stop breathing or it would somehow stop my heart muscle from working.  Once, I blacked out and stopped breathing in front of my kids.  They are 4 and 9 and were scared and thought I died.  Not fun.  The doctors act as if this is no big deal.  Par for the course in rheumatory/connective tissue diseases I guess.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.  - Kris

Dear Kris,
It's awful the pericarditis. Came down with it as a complication of RA in late 2004.
That's terrible going to the ER for that. The wait in the triage is the worst.
Kris....you're in my prayers.
Do your children know about all of this? Do they understand? Just wondering. In pediatrics, age 9 is actually a very prime time where kids are very receptive & enthused to learn and help and take responsibilities for parents with illness. I mean, nothing major...but willingness to learn about conditions and how the body works and what to do in emergencies and all.
You take good care.
Sincerely,
Erin
