I hope that someone out there can answer this for me.  I have been on steroids for 4-5 years. They have really wrecked havoc on my whole body, BUT they did help with my lungs.
Now here is my delimna, I got a really severe case of ringworm in Sept. of 2004.  Because of the steroids, it did get into my system. I took forever and many medicines to get rid of the ringworm.  I have had a sore in my head ever since the ringworm.  Now in the past week I have 4 spots come out on me that look just like the ringworm. I am using my cream and taking some medicine I had left over from  the original.  My question is this:  Can ringworm remain domant in your sytem and then flare up???  I went to my vet (yes, the vet is cheaper than the dr)and he said possibly.

The cat that gave me the ringworm was taken back to the vet and unfortunately put to sleep. THey said it lighted up like a Christmas tree.  Neither of my pets have ringworm now or hubby. So, I feel that I never did get totally free of the ringworm.  I am just not sure.  I hope someone out there can either help me with this question or send me to a website where I can figure this out.

Be safe this weekend. J :-)
Current medications, when I take all of them: Accolate, Albuterol, Atrovent, Celexa, Flexeril, Floriner, Fosamax, Lasix, Librax, Lidoderm patches, Locacet 10 mg. Micardis, Micro-K, Nexium, Potassium CL, Prednisone, Premarin, Zocor, Calcium w. Vit. D, Vit. D, Centrum A-Z, Stoll Softener.

I have Addison's Disease, from the prolonged steroid use, GERD, oster-arthritis, osteoporis, Depression, IBS, Chronic pain, ruptured disks in back, fractures in back and feet, and GOd knows what else I will end up with.

Hi jbrat,  Unfortunately I don't know much about ringworm.  Your theory, though, does sound plausible.  On steroids, you're obviously more susceptible to lots of bugs.  With your new "rings" coming out, I might recommend you go see a doctor.  I know, not what you wanted to hear, but you want to make sure that it is in fact ringworm and not something else.

My mother was on prednisone for years.  She got lots of weird things that she otherwise wouldn't have even come close to getting.

Thanks Elcamino;  It just seems like I get something under control and BAM mad   here comes something else to worry about.  I have some medicine left over from the previous ringworm and I am using that. It seems to be healing up. At least hubby and the dog and cat don't have any rashes. Just me.  My vet did seem to think it looked like ringworm.

I have been having sever muscle spasms for over a week now. In my legs, ribs, side, feet you name it has been there.  I eneded up taking extra potassium and mag. today. That seem to help. But I also had to take an extra fluid pill, my feet are very swollen.  I am beginning to wonder if al these meds has somehow messed up my liver. That is where alot of my rib pain is at.  Sorry, to keep rambling on, but I am just bouncing ideas off my head.

Have a safe and nice Memorial Day :-)

hi- sorry you have this. ringworm is not actually a worm condition byt it is a fungal situation. usually it clears up with an anti fungal applied to the area. they sell over the counter anti fungals that should clear it up.

if not then you ought to find a doc or dematologist who can prescribe something that can clear it up. the thing about steriods use is that it tends to do something to the immune system so things like ringworm you can become more prone to getting. good luck

Thanks Missie. I had some prescription tablets left over and stared taking them. The places are starting to clear up for now. I just hate to go to the doctors for another problem. I feel ike I leve in the dr.s offices now.

I still think that since I had such a bad case of rigworm in 2004, that it has become dormant in my system and then just flared up. But, not knowoing enough about it, I haven't found any information confirming my thoughts. Except for my vet.

by the way i am not a doc but i cant take zocor and the liver problems it causes me. so i switched to celadrin which is salmon oil which lower my cholestrol from 350 to 211 in 2 months. it is supposed to be anti inflamm for arthritis but the results you get is that it lowers cholestrol.....

Wow Missie 1227,

I can not believe it took 2 1/2 yr for SSDI.

is that the one where it's really your own money and it's rated
by how much you paid into the system?

that is the one i applied for and am now waiting for court date on
the appeal. I think it's been at least 2 yrs? I'm losing track.

I wonder why you didn't get it soon as you had that accident.

Not being able to work is torture and then applying for disability
they treat you like a criminal.

my situation is Hep c
and then all the insane phantom conditions that came up from the treatment.
one of them being severe adrenal exhaustion.

Jbrat, I was wondering what they gave you for the addisons. the gave me
hydrocortisone and fludrocortisone. I just took the hydrocortisone. I'm
scared of the steroids. When i tried prednisone it was the most incredible
thing. After being in bed all the time for 2yrs, I took that prednisone during
a snow storm. I shoveled my driveway and then my cousin's driveway.
i remember thinking "Wow, is this what the athletes are taking?"

My Mom died of leukemia and she was on and off steroids and asthma pumps
for yrs.

The medication thing seems to keep snowballing. and every doctor has a different
opinion. Now the last endo I saw this wek told me the other endo did the test wrong
and I am titrating down off the cortisone.

????????????????? so confused
thank god for this web site and the people who share information.

Bucci, I take flornief for the Addison's and I still have to take prednisone. I take 15 mg of prednisone everyday, unless somethig is flared up and then I up the dose.

I have stopped my Zocor and the SEVERE muscles spasms in my legs has stopped. I will not go back on Zocor!!!! I should get my blood test results back tomorrow. I asked them to do a liver panel too.

Good luck with SSDI it takes forever and yes, that is the one that you paid into while your were working.
