Don't forget white potatoes are a nightshade plant. Giving up those foods has really reduced the amount of pain meds I have to take. You have to decide what is worse hurting or giving up potatoes and mexican food.
I understand it doesn't affect everyone, but it sure helped me.

caffine is bad for you also--- non caffine teas and colas and coffes are ok i take celadrin salmon oil in softgels which helps with my cholestrol it went from 350 downto 211 in 2 months, it does nothing in my point of view for arthritis which is why i took it in the first place.

i am now on a sugar reduced diet -atkins- and have some noticed inprovement in the pain levels i need to lose about 40 pounds also which may help with my back pain since i dont know what else to do and neither does anyone else know what to do with me

I think some of it depends on the type of arthritis also... I know with PA, it doesn't have as many triggers as RA... what it all boils down to is to try and eat healthy, low sugar, low fat and low caloric intake... the more you weigh, the worse things will be for you... (typically)... But then, of course, we are not all textbook, so then it is a hit and miss type of thing.. listen to your body... good luck

I was told to avoid citrus as well (i.e., orange juice.)

Dairy triggers flares for me as well, but I have issues w/dairy as it is.

you are all taking the joy out of my food... as for the sugar i have rule of thumb i follow. always eat dessert first to make certain you have room in the tummy for it! i think pain is a fair price to pay for a piece of mile high pie. ~*yalinda

Hi Missie..Just don't eat too few calories, either. I know it seems tough to do, but I found out I wasn't eating enough so upped my calories and lost 13 pounds! Just increase with healthy foods, not cake and cookes...lol!!  BTW...was about 30 pounds overweight!

don't forget that caffeine is actually a pain reliever too! just thought i'de throw that in for us java lovers.
personally, i don't belive any food is bad...it is what we add like fish, flax & olive oils that only make things better.
all whole natural foods are what we are supposed to be consuming...not 21 century crap that's packaged.
Celiac diseases and GI diseases i honestly believe are most sensitive to foods in terms of triggering flares and worsening symptoms.
wheat i believe personally can kick start certain immune and allergen processes that can exacerbate autoimmune conditions and of course if a person has any hypersensitivities.

I was just reading an article in Reader's digest on Pain control. It said that sugar reduces the perception of pain, specially table sugar. Sounds like license to eat dessert, and drink sodas. Its almost as good as finding out chocolate is good for you. tongue

I'm told that caffine helps open up your sinus's - great excuse for a can of your favorite soft drink when allergies hit! tongue

Ugh, i tried the Atkins diet. Boy was I unwell and started getting bladder/kidney problems & ended up with protein and blood in my urine. At that time, I hadnt been diagnosed with Lupus yet. Since then I've read about this and heard this diet is a big no-no for Lupie's, especially with kidney involvement. All the protein is too much stress for the kidney's.

yes i know the protein level is high....but i have to watch my sugar also. so here i go again...caffine i am told is good for adverse reactions to meds which may cause a drop in blood pressure, my pharmactist told me to take caffine if i was every in a quandry on how to snap out of an adverse reaction...
i cant have onions potatoes garlic tomatoes nightshades etc.
it sucks....the atkins candy bars taste good and have fiber in it but i noticed the kidneys are not putting out as much water either so i will have to back off on this also it seems. i dont know waht to eat anymore!!!

i dont feel well on any diet and dont feel good when i eat too much sugar either although i love sugar but notice my eyesight gets weird when i eat a reeses pieces peanut butter cup or a hersheys bar.
i have not noticed any improvement in me changing my diet whatsoever.
i am on prozac now also. 20 mg and do not notice any improvement, some days i wonder waht else can i do for myself
i am doing all that i can be doing within reason and trying all i can try since united health care cut my coverage sincei got on medicare, they re fighting me tooth and nail for pt coverage, not that it helps me either when i go.

i am also now getting myself in financial problems b/c i am buying CRAP on ebay and junk that looks good but when i get it most of it is crap and then i am stuck with it. i cant stop myself.
i have spent thousands of dollars on jewelery ( some of it not bad) clothing ( why i dont know b/c i cant go anywhere) vintage clothing and when i get the stuff, most of it is so bad i have to either throw it out as many people dont give money back, or  try to re-sell it. i ahve only gotten a few things that  i could consider a bargin.
most of it was junk and in bad shape but sellers lie about the status of their stuff.
i ask questions but people out and out lie about their products and misrepresent themselves.
i have gotten burned more than once or twice. several times.
still i am spending and can not stop it, and i dont know what to do.
sometimes it evens out b/c i can re-sell the same junk i get  but i tell the truth about the stuff  isell but then i dont get as much as i paid for it b/c i tell the truth.
i am out of control.
i used to buy on qvc and hsn but quit that on tv.
now it is ebay.....someone tell me waht to do, i am runing out of money

i know i should do this stop it..... i have a few items on there i am selling to try to re-coup my loses and then i am stoping. i quit it for 6 months last time and only bought junk once in  a while, now it is up at night searching for so called bargins in jewelery and clothing and then i get into bidding contests with people and the stuff bids up.

in the last month alone i musta spent 1,000 on junk that i dont need. 3 rings from the 1880's, a shawl, hats, a bedspread etc. i tell myself i will leave these things to my son if i pass away, as he should have something to remember me by. but i sold 400.00 of junk like shoes and other clothing and things to try to balance it out.

i feel like i am addicted to this shopping and playing on ebay. it is awful i am up literally nights until 3 am looking for so called vintage jewlerey when i should be sleeping, i know i have a problem. i know i need help. i only started this within the past year. i dont have a life so this is what i do to keep myself entertained, i should be looking for chat groups to find others to talk to instead of buying junk......i have no family other than my son who is out of the country all summer and is 21, and my husband who is part time also ( he goes off on his own b/c he cant take me) other than that i live alone and in pain and depressed, the prozac isnt really helping me it keeps me up all night also.

iwill wind up like one of those people who die alone with tons of junk collected around them in a messy house and has no one else , if i got a cat to be friends with, i would be afraid if i died my cat would eat my  part of my face and no one would even know i am missing, i do not fgo out much and have become a recluse but for doctors visits or sometimes to the market/pharamacy. that is it. ebay is my link to the outside and junk and people except for this place.....i am a very lonely person who feels like life is passing me by

i am in so much pain all the time taht this is my life now. i dont have any excuses forthis behavior.

Hi there Missie,
Well, give yourself credit in that you are aware of these things!  That's a major major positive quality.  Some people are like this...but are unaware and deny it or try to rationalize it.  So the 1st step in making things right is knowing what the problem is.
You know yourself that it's cyclicle in nature.  A viscous circle that needs to be broken somewhere, like with any addiction or compulsion.
Now you need the tools to break the cycle.

{oh, and believe me...if you get a cat as a pet (which i totally think is a fantastic idea)...it won't eat your face if you keel over so don't worry} :-)
taking care of God's creature is a noble and wonderful thing to do.

Hi missie, I call it escapism due to depression. I have had it the last few years and have distanced myself so much from husband that now that I'm trying to have a relationship again he basically told me the other day 'I'm only still here because of the children."

Take care.
