Hi Everyone,
I had my first Rheumy visit on Friday. He took 14 vials of blood, a MRI of my wrist and a Dexascan. It was ok though because he has everything in his building so i don't have to travel to get everything done. He ordered me to go on infusion therepy of Remicade,(any info on this therepy that anyone can give me would be appriciated) Anyway I have another appt in two weeks to get all of my results. I am healing from my appendix surgery and that DR has cleared me to go back to work. I hope everyone is doing ok. God Bless

Hi Andrea!
Remicade has been a lifesaver for me!!  I have been on it and methotrexate for over a year now.  I began infusions in July 2005 and I am really doing well.  It has helped my joint pain and swelling so much.  I haven't had any reactions to the infusions but I continue to receive pre-meds "just in case."  Shoot me any questions you might have and I'll see what I can help you with.  Keep me posted on your visits and such.  Good luck!  I'll keep good thoughts for you!

Hi Andrea. I was on Remicade for about 20 months. I LOVED it. It cleared up my psorisis wonderfully and my joints were doing terrific on it! Unfortunately, for me, I had to stop - I have a very weak immune system to start with and eventually started having allergic reactions to the infusions (mainly because my body couldn't handle it anymore, I think.)  It was in my best interest to stop rather than continue with the infusions.

However, many people do NOT have this problem!

The infusion can take up to 3 hours to give, so bring a book and a water bottle. They often give Benedryl and Tylenol as a pre-med. Benedryl makes me sleepy, so wear comfy clothing to sit for 3 hours and in case you want to snooze!

I had immediate results. Because I was going through a severe bout of psorisis at the time, I saw it clearning up within 48 hours after my first infusion. The joints, after each initial infusion were showing signs of improvement as well. I was floored at how good I felt while taking the med - and supposedly it works even better if you take methotrexate while on it (I chose not to because I feel too rotten on it.)

Good luck. ***
