:-)  Ok guys... Here we go!  Here is the diet thread... For those of us that are participating, you can post as much info or as little info as you want... Post your progress, and maybe a chart of what you've eaten/drank and if you have exercised.

This is just to chart our progress, you can loose as much or as little as you want.  I personally need to loose 30 - 40 lbs, however, I would be happy with anything!  tongue

We can keep this thread going as long as it takes.. If you have a bad day, and didn't exercise or didn't eat well... THAT'S OK.. we all have those days!  Don't let it get to you, just try to do better the next day! scool

You don't have to post everyday, but are more than welcome to if you want too!

I'll start with my info... Here goes..

Height:  5'8"
Weight:  Fluctuates from 180 -190 sad
Goal:  To loose anything!  :-)
How am I going to do that?  Writing down what I eat, not drinking sodas or coffee anymore... Back to Green Tea and Water... starting to exercise... cool

Have a GREAT DAY!  Let the loosing BEGIN!  yeah

Hey All!

Thanks, Ducky, for getting us started! I woke up feeling like a blimp this morning! sad   So, no time like the present to get started.

I haven't been doing too well trying to jump in with both feet on this -  so my FIRST focus is to get EXERCISE in my life as well as cutting back and stopping the night snacking (at least on junk.) Basically, I'm going to try the "if I exercise and make minor dietary adjustments, the diet will automatically come in to play...." theory first.

My Plan: use the treadmill that is collecting dust at least 4 times a week and work up to 5/6.  Do floor exercises (situps mainly) 4+ times a week as well. Stretch EVERY day. Remember to dink LOTS of water!
My ultimate goal: is to loose about 75 pounds....
Short term goal: right now, I'd like to loose 30 lbs  by Christmas, but I'll take 20 (heck, I'll take ANYTHING at this point as well!) as I think 30 in 3 months is unreasonable for me these days

Hi all.

I've been avoiding this thread today, as I haven't done very well on eating so far :)  Had a bag of pretzels for lunch--but I did have yogurt and fruit for breakfast.  Problem is I'm going to be starving for dinner.

Here's my information:

Height:  5'5"

Weight: 150

Goal Weight:  140

Plan:  What Plan? I guess it will be accomplished through watching what I eat and incorporating more exercise into my routine.  I will walk for 30 minutes at least 4X a week.  I will cut out all sweets, except for fruit.  For now.

hey does anyone have any ideas on how i could get taller? hehehehehe

i always said if i was taller i would be thinner! one sure way to loose weight .... kinda :)

ok i am typing so i dont snack very stressful evening just got home drove 80mph to get my daughter to her job on time after field hockey, no exageration on that one.... i drive a toyota celica so i am naturally a speed demon, sry to all officers out there , but luckily i didnt meet any tonight :) ...... this was a major trip from northen end of county to southern ugh....

normally this stress would be comforted by a cup of hot cider and biscotti, .... actually all i have eaten thus far is a bagel and cream cheese (at that point i had forgotten today was D day) gosh i confess a fun size kit katt and a glass of ruby red for lunch/ break and that is all ~all day... very typical .... way too late to cook my daughter already had chicken fingers, not my thing so no problem saying no to that.....so i think i will have some green tea... yuck no sugar...... and call it a night in front of boob tube..... i did walk about half a mile or so today, not much but it is dark here now so i'll pass..... signed confessions of a junky

Hey there junky! tee hee hee... I haven't done too well for my first day either.. weather turned crappy and my joints were starting to hurt... (excuses, excuses, right?) Anyways - I haven't drank any sodas or coffee today, so that is good... I am on my 3rd bottle of diet green tea though... and I had a bottle of water earlier, so at least I am sticking to that for now... I won't even go into what I've eaten today... baby steps... tomorrow will be better... :(

Confession time, yes? I didn't do so great either. After my bag of pretzels for lunch I didn't eat anything at all until dinner. Ate a sensible dinner (perhaps a tad bit too much), but then I just took my girls to Baskin and robbins for ice cream. It was good...

I will start tomorrow.

Hi Gang,
I've had some weight lost success in the last 6 months due to prednisone induced diabetes. I had to change my whole way of eating and thinking about food. And, it all begins in the head as far as I am concerned. I had to think differenty, get everything out of the house that was sweet, starchy, ect., and had to talk myself into this everyday until it became like second nature.
Once I got adjusted to the formula that the nutritionist in my doctor's office worked out for me and a site that I belong to online that helps formulate a weight loss program for diabetes, or anyone, for that matter. A diabetic diet is a diet low in carbs, no or low sugar, moderate fat and protein. This has worked for me, and I never ever thought I could lose weight, esp. as much time as I spend in bed, and being on prednisone. But the calorie intake being around 1200 and the carbs being about 20-25 a meal, the protein around 20 per meal and the fat 10gr per meal, it seems to have helped me metabolize the food better, and use up the calories. I can only imagine what I would have lost if I had felt like exercising. I have found lots of ways to eat well and be satisfied and full. Of course I had to stop eating pasta, most bread, sweets, potatoes, anything high in carbs. Even some fruits are high in carbs. So I had to research and find out what I could eat. I do cheat occasionly and go out for a senior plate of spagetti. lol or have a piece of carrot cake when we go to our favorite restaurant. But, then I get right back to it.
I love sugar free jello, and sf cool whip, also the puddings, so I eat those when I want sweets. I love salads and veg. so that wasn't hard. I love chicken, lean beef, lean port, and fish so the meats are not a problem. Also, I have found low carb yogurt that I eat with a low carb cereal, and have found a low carb, low sugar, low fat milk called HOOD. They have it in chocolate too. And, they actually taste good.

I cannot believe I have done this. I was/am a food junkie and ate whatever I wanted to. I was 213 in April and now am 191-193, depends on what time of day I weigh..lol I still am probably a food junkie lol I just eat differently now.

I haven't been losing as much lately, but if I can just keep going down a lb or 2 every few weeks I'll be happy. I am going to stay on this diet even though my blood sugar is stabilizing because the prednisone has been reduced. I just feel better, my digestive system seems to like the change too.
Not to mention, it is healthy and keeps the weight down. I would like to lose at least down to 150, but I am taking that one day at a time. I didn't even think I could do this when I started, but I guess I made a decison that I had to do it for my health. It's a shame it took that to get me where i am. But, for whatever reason, I'm grateful.

For me it's a daily thing of working out what I will eat and trying to eat it every 3-4 hours in much smaller portions. I am a night owl and love to eat at night. So, that is usually when I binge on my sugar free jello and cool whip. :-) and yogurt.

I don't know if this helps anyone, but I wanted to share on the thread because I am extremely proud of myself for keeping this up and losing what I have. And, it helps me to see it in writing. :-)

Thanks for starting this thread!

Be Well,

Judy

Thank you girls very much for the validation. It is appreciated so much!! I just woke up from a nap. My sleeping habits are strange.
Well, here I sit at 2:am eating my sf peach jello and sf cool whip. :-) I have not been real consistent today with the times I have eaten but here goes.... I ate 1 cup of kellogs special K low everything, I put CarbMaster peach Yogurt , and 1/3 a bananna in it.. That makes it crunchy and I like it. In between, skipped lunch :-( which is a no no, should have taken something with me to snap on when I went out. snack that I bought while I as out..small package of almonds ( love them so much) and they are good for the diabetic diet. , ate more than I should have had, about 200calaries, low in carbs, high in protein, and, a little high in fat, but not bad. Dinner- Big salad with broc. and cauliflower, two different kinds of cheeses, tuna on top and blue cheese dressing ( low n carbs) chicken veninna sausages. You can tell I didn't plan my food today. lol.. vanilla yogurt, nut sprinkles, and now my jello and whipped cream. I did ok, but could have done a lot better nutrition wise. I really didn't fix a balanced meal all day. But that's ok. I drank very little water, :-(. Diet Dr. Pepper ( Berries and Cream) yummy!! I had coffee, half caffine and half decaf.. about 3 cups. and had iced tea. I need to do better on my water, and slow down on the soft drinks and coffee. I love crystal Light but it's so expensive. I love the pepsi one. I have always been a die hard non diet cola person, but have found a few I like.
Well, will submit this and post tomorrow. I have not been on the scale. Hmm.. maybe, maybe not.

Be Well,

Judy

I'm hungry.. hmm what can I eat? LOL.

Well, it sounds like yesterday was a rough day for us all! No one said we were going all out on day one! tongue   My day was pretty much shot - but I did keep on the move, even it there was no actual exercise involved. Unfortunately, my calorie intake probably way exceeded any calories burned. sad

Today I WILL get on that treadmill. I did stretch this morning (almost fell asleep on the floor before I woke the children! doh!) I was going to add another thing to my goals today - but you know what, getting on the treadmill will prove difficult enough.

I've been really tired lately, and I realized I haven't taken my Bcomplex (folic acid) in over a week.....so, I started that back up today. Maybe that will help.

Have a great one and good luck to you all! yeah

I'm going to try and not at after 7 pm though, and see how that works out.... hope everyone has had a better day... I'm ready for bed.

Bad eating day for me! But I did get some exercise in. I ended up going out to lunch with some of the new employees in my office. Great social event, great political move, etc.... But I ended up going to a food court and ordering a burrito of all things! Made me sick as a dog too (I deserved it). I didn't take my zantac last night (I take PPIs in the morning and supplement with zantac before bed). That's one way to lose weight, I tell you. When my stomach and esophagus are inflamed I want nothing to do with food. When I had my girls (I had a c-section), I ended up with a slight upper GI bleed from stomach acid. Doctor put me on IV for several days, but I still couldn't eat for at least a week after that. Doctor even yanked the IV out so I'd be hungry. I tried, but ick. Of course, I don't want go there again.

Judy, your low carb, low sugar, low fat diet seems to be quite effective. You should be proud of yourself. It is very hard to lose weight, and the older I get the harder I seem to lose it. My husband keeps trying to get me to do the semi-low carb thing. I'll do a bit, but I love my baked potatoes. I don't want to give them up. I also think fruits and veggies are healthy, no matter how many carbs they have.

congratulations everybody on your efforts. I weigh 230 and must get down to 190 though I'd settle for 200 at this point. I have been dieting since February at which time I was 256. It is slow but sure. If I can get to April and be 215, I'd be ok with that. VERY OK WITH THAT, lol.

way to go Joan! 'slow but sure' means it is real weight coming off and will be harder to put back on!

yesterday, after doing some cleaning, my feet hurt so bad I never did exercise. Today I did situps (gotta love Tami Lee Webb!) and the kids and I walked to and from the park as well as did a lap while there. So, it is something. I'm still really tired these days and starting to not feel well....my eye has been feeling swollen, though it doesn't LOOK swollen. I see rhuemy Friday, if it's worse, I'll have him look at it.

Good luck everyone! Keep up the effort!

Hi, I haven't been around for a few day. Glad to see that eveyone is still posting. I had a cup of Special K w/protein, low carb, & fat., and mixed low carb/no sugar peach yogurt, coffee, and a glass of low sugar orange juice. I went out so took a package of pretzels and cheese with me to eat for a snack after about 3 hours, and ate that around 11 with a diet Dr. Pepper. I have gotten myself into the habit of eating every 3 hours I feel strange if I don't. Also, my blood sugar drops. I"m diabetic from the prednisone so I really have to work on when and what I eat. Went out to lunch with my girlfriend... uhhh I won't say what all I had. lol.. but I deverted from my usual lunch.lol.. I had a salad with chicken salad in it. I had some roast beef, carrots, limas, corn, but all small portions. I really didn't eat anything too startchy. It was a buffet so it was very temping. I did have a piece of carrot cake, a small piece. I don't deprive myselfof that when I go there. I just take a little more insulin. I'm sure I went over all my limits today, but I don't do that often and I deserve it. :-) I had some sunflower seeds later in the day and some yogurt for a snack.
For dinner a bowl of homemade veg beef soup.. A couple of hours after dinner a cup of cereal with vanilla yogurt mixed in it, (it's really good) another glass of milk. I am trying to get alot of calcium because of the prednisone.
Now.. I'm thinking about my sugar free jello wonderin if it is ready..lol I"m out of cool whip so I guess I'll eat vanilla yogurt with it.

That's all.. Oh, sometime during the day I had a piece of pastrami with cheese wrapped around it, no bread. I do that when I feel hungry. Usually I eat turkey which is hardly any calories and no fat,no carbs, and different kinds of cheese because they have no carbs. I've gotten used to just rolling up meat like that with whatever kind of cheese I have like that with maybe a pickle in between. I do eat some bread, but not often. I have found some great low carb flat breads. Oh, I drank mostly diet sodas, two glasses of tea and one glass of water. :-(

Thanks for listening. I hope I walked a bunch of calories off today. I weighed yesterday @190 in the morning and 192 in the evening. have not weighed today at all.. It's good to have a place to come and write this down. It forces me to get back on my regimin better stay on it.

Thanks,

Judy

I have a confession to make.  I've have not done very well with diet this week, but I realize that's because I really don't have a plan to follow per se.  I've just been watching what I eat.  I've only exercised twice this week.  I've got to do better than this guys.

Here's what I ate yesterday (at least I remembered):

Breakfast--fat-free blueberry muffin, fruit salad

Lunch--chicken ceasar salad, piece of bread (bad bad bad)

Dinner--salmon, onion rings, corn

Snack--butterfingers candy bar
