hi everyone!

would like to know what is the folic acid for and is it like a vitamin that I can take everyday?  i have forgotten it completely.

i use to take this along w/ prednisone, methotrexate & plaquenil but stopped when i started taking a food supplement because i have improved a lot to the point that i never took pain reliever nor find a need to see my rheumy. i just want to make sure that i take the right dose since i still have a few left.

thanks

Hi Roza,  from what I understand mtx interrupts the folic acid pathways.  That's why when we're prescribed mtx, we're usually told to also take folic acid.  Taking the folic acid supplements will decrease the risk of side effects from the mtx.  If you're still taking mtx, I would recommend you ask your doctor about continuing the folic acid.  I wouldn't want to take mtx without the folic acid.  I don't believe folic acid has anything to do with pain killers.
