Cardiologosts diagnosis for today, Percarditis.. until further testing...
She told me that I am so inflamed that a real big part of the muscle to my heart doesn't even move. She's going to run me through a scan within a few days, to make sure it's not in the valves. She mentioned possible surgery if the arterie is clogged or damaged or whatever. If that's the case surgery will be in two weeks. I don't understand this stuff. I do have high colesterol. But I also have Pleurisy. I thought if my heart isn't funtioning right should I be going home???

Oh Please! tell me that I dont have to go up on the prednisone... I can only handle what I'm taking right now. Another thing..does the cardiologist get ahold of your Rheumy and let him know what's going on? Thay are right across the hall from each other. I'm so mad at him right now because I have been in intense pain and he would not help me. Just kept me on the vicodin 500..baby aspirin compared to what I have going. Straight out making me suffer. And finally I had to beg to get something for my muscles, after months, he gives me robaxin 500...
Thanks for listening to me ramble on...

hi lori ~sorry to hear your frustrating news. i went on line and looked up info on pericarditis. it seems RA can be a causing factor or other inflammatory diseases like lupus can effect the outer lining causing it to be inflammed. chest pain is the major noted symptom moving to the arms. it seems what i read was that as long as it is treated there are no lasting effects. steroids were mentioned as 1 form of treatment in the article i read.

my advice is keep on top of the doctors the best you can and ask questions -as i am certain you are doing.

as always i will keep you in my prayers and hope this resolves quickly? take care lori and keep us posted.

hey Lori,
i'm so sorry. 3 years ago i had infectious pericarditis as a complication from RA. had an echo, halter monitor, cts...the whole shabang. umh...despite the crushing intense pain...i was left as well on my regular pain meds...i think it was just Darvocet? but i did get Lidoderm patches to put on my chest & they helped. also, Albuterol...antibiotics, aspirin, and my regular RA meds. had to follow up with the doc like every other day for 2 weeks while it was happenning.
i had to call everyone & tell them what was going on. they mean well, but do they really gove reports to each other????? not all the time.
so it left with mitral valve & tricuspid valve regurgitation & also leaflet scarring of the 3 valves. it's bothersome sometimes. i guess maybe that's why my heart pounds from the prednisone now? who knows.
but do keep atop of it and if any pain gets worse....go to the ER.
know that you're not alone...it's scarey...but you're not alone. if any doubts, there's always the hospital & don't be afraid to go. better safe right?
rest rest rest & take it easy for now. let us know how you're doing in the am!
with luv

Thank you Erin,
Right now I feel OK . Yesterday there were a couple of times I felt I wanted to go to the er but I just let time pass and it was OK. My heart just pounds crazy and I feel it through my whole body. Even the finger tips. But I can feel it pound on one side of the heart, the other side just nothing. And then I get these wierd flutters that are kind of scary. I have been feeling burning in my chest but no big boom!.lol...So I'm going to hang in there, wait it out unless of course something should happen. I hope the waiting doesn't cause me any permanent problems like yours ...oh my gosh!! After all, I seen him in October and we are just getting to this point....I know I need to be patient and not stress because it does no good. I am just relaxing so I don't put stress on the heart. I will fill you in when I get my results back....
Take care,
Lori
