Hi, everybody -

I am looking for a rheumatologist for a friend of mine who lives in the National Capital Region (Washington, DC, Suburban Maryland, Northern Virginia). Like me, she has reactive arthritis, aka arthropathy. Her previous doctor managed to get approval for embrel to treat this condition. Don't know if that is an off label use of the drug, as it is approved for psoriatic and rheumatoid arthritis. She is also being treated with antibiotics. She definitely wants a cutting edge doctor who will go to bat for her to stay on these medication. She doesn't want to travel all the way to Fairfax City to see Dr. Z.

Does anyone have any recommendations of doctors in this area that are using the latest protocols to treat arthritis? I would very much appreciate any information you can share. If you don't want to provide the name of the doctor on this forum, you can write me at evelynsasser@yahoo.com

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hey Eve,

I live in the new york area, so unfornately first hand I dont know of anyone, however maybe you can try to visit the Arthritis Foundation website

http://www.arthritis.org/resources/contactus.asp#General_queries

Just go on that website, and put in your zip code of choice, and see if there are any centers by you, maybe the arthritis foundation can give you a good refferal for your freind....

i hope this helps.....Tell your freind to hang in there....

I can add Dr. Magid from the Hospital for Special Surgeries in Manhattan...on 72nd street between York & 2nd avenues. They specialize in rheumatics and bone and joint disease. I went to this Dr. But there are many others. I know it's not in the specific areas you wanted...but it's worth listing because some the nation's greatest rheummies are there.
best wishes in your find

Hi, everybody. Thanks for the information. Someone sent me an email with the name of a doctor that treats reactive arthritis. He is apparently supportive of the biologics (Enbrel) and will prescribe. So, I think this will work out just fine. Please don't spend your precious energy on seeing any additional doctors. You guys are great!

Eve - I lived in DC for years and I saw Dr. David Borenstein at Arthritis and Rheumatism Associates for my RA. Here's their website http://www.arapc.com/physicians.html I went to the DC clinic, but they have 5 offices throughout the DC metro area.

Good luck!

Eve,

I saw a Dr. Edger Potter a few times just before moving from DC to Oklahoma last year. He was very compassionate and was ready to place me on meds such as Enbrel. I was so excited, but ended up having to move! (figures!)

He is at 1328 Southern Ave. SE #210, DC 202-574-0540

Now, he's not in the greatest section of the metro area, but if she takes a friend or family member along, she'll do just fine.

Give her my best,
Beth
