I have been taking plaquenil since January. It says to take it with milk but it makes me gassy.....to put it rather mildly. I have IBS which the diaherrea has "myteriously" stopped since I stopped drinking the milk bc of the plaquenil. Now every night I wake up with SEVERE leg cramps from the lack of milk....today I got a cramp in my arm. I have started taking a multivitamin with extra calcium but it is not working like the 3 glasses of milk a day. DOES ANYONE HAVE ADVICE?? I need an alternative to the calcium or I am going to have to keep drinking the milk and be gassy forever..... mad I have plenty of other questions but this one is most pressing for now.......THANK YOU!

Hey mama4two.. Welcome to healing well! Have you tried drinking Lactaid? It's milk with no lactose in it... That may help, or maybe take a separate calcium supplement to help you with getting your calcium intake? Or maybe take Lactaid pills when you drink milk, will help with the gas and bloating too.. Let us know what you decide... Hang in there... take good care..

Ducky~ Thank you. I have not tried Lactaid. Never even thought of it to be honest. I did bump up my calcium intake to 1200mg extra per day. We will see how that goes. I have had no other side effects from the plaquenil and prednisone yet, so I consider myself lucky. The not being able to drink alchohol has been the only really traumatic thing. I am a wine and beer lover. I have had a little here and there but it keeps me up at night. Besides that I am feeling pretty well, no pain!!!! YAY! Tired all the time but I am a stay at home Mom, aren't we suppose to be tired? Thanks for the advice. You take care too....

I too take plaqeunil, but my doc or rx never told me to take it with milk. I think that with some of the meds like this they need to be taked with FOOD or MILK to coat your stomach. it dosent nered to be milk try eating something instead. well good luck
