I noticed the last few days I have been having slight shaking in my hands and legs. When my limbs are at rest there is no shaking but when I lift something like a glass of water, my left hand shakes a little. Or if I bend down my legs will shake slightly. Can this be attributed to the 15 mgs/week of MTX and 15mg/day of Prednisone? Is this something I should have a my primary doctor check out or my rheumy?

I hope it is not parkinsons nono

I would talk to your Rheumy about it. I use my Rheumy for anything that I think might be RA or medication related. Prednisone has made me feel wired and I think 15 mgs was enough to do it. I do remember a little hand tremor on the higher doses. Everyone is different. Did you have this before the prednisone? I did not have any side effects from the MTX and I am on a higher dose. That does not mean anything to you though because everybody is different. It is helpful to get support and feedback on the forum but it is not diagnostic and only your doctor can do that. I remember when I first heard I had RA and I read all the data on the internet and scared myself to death. One site said that having RA took 10 to 20 years off your life span. Some of us would be dead already! Things are no where as bad as the doomsayers. I had worried about MS and Parkinsons and this and that but thank goodness none of it was true, just free floating anxiety. It is important to stay mentally healthy and think positive. It is hard to do when you are first diagnosed or have a bad flare. Sress is not good for anyone. I was sick for the last month and felt terrible. That is where the support on the forum pulled me through and gave me a few chuckles and a more positive outlook. I hope you are feeling better sending you some healing vibes}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

thanks for the kind words harley!! I did not shake before the medications. Today I did not shake at all. I went down to 10mg of prednisone today. I am thinking of going AP route cause I am not liking the meds :(

You made my day with your kind words!

thanks again

"Shake n' Bake"!!! tongue awe...well my 1st advise to you is: don't perform any surgeries on anybody, LOL.  and umh....watch out when you shave.

i got the tremors in my hands, arms & also legs (thighs mostly) when i was on Prednisone (and still do when i take it) it doesn't take much...i remember beingon 10mg and it still happened.
when i was in the hospital & was getting IV steroids....wow, when i came home my whole body was nonstop shaking....was so bad i called the doc! but he assured me i was from the steroids.

i don't know what meds you have...but when i take Pred now, i always have a Valium or Xanax chaser.  it just helps with the rapid heartbeat & trembles.

but i do hear ya...it was mostly when i would go to grip a cup....or use a fork or something. that's when i first noticed it.

be careful Zeek.  keep us updated on how you're doing.

Hi, I have taken prednisone for years, I have had asthma since I was four. Yes, it will give you the jitters and shakes. Sorry this is one of the side affects of pred! I have a prescription for 5mg per day, but stopped taking it when I felt better and was out of my "flare". Today it was back and I took 10mg. Hopefully I will be able to sleep!

Is there something else that can stop a flare and not cause the jitters, rapid heart beat etc. What is AP?

hey there Nan
i do believe that zeek is speaking of the Antibiotic Protocol? if it's not, then i'm totally out of the loop, LOL. but waaaay back when...RA was first & primarily treated with antibiotics. even in the 70's it was well practiced. and it does work for some people.
for myself...i do feel better joint wise when taking Antibiotics.

i wish there was something to stop a flare besides pred.

i am currently working on a study on MYSELF! LOL...yeah, i'm doing a clinical study on the effects of Benedryl on RA!! (kinda using the whole allergen mediated/immune mediated theory) i'm seeing if the Benedryl works as a pain killer for RA joint pain. so far???? it has... sorta has the effect on the joints as taking an NSAID. (using 50mg of Benny)

DISCLAIMER: my above statment might be nonsensical...don't attempt at home, i'm just experimenting. but if i'm on to something...look for me in the AMA Journals! LOL
