I didn't think that was possible while on pred, but I think I overdid it cleaning up the house yesterday.  My son keeps getting sick and I swear it is something in my home so I disinfected floor to ceiling.  Now my hands are swollen around my first knuckles and my wrists hurt and my feet and jaw is starting to kick in too.  Called doc and they increased the pred another five to 15mg daily.  There was mention that the Enbrel may not be working but they want to try it at least until my next visit in May, then to Humira.  I feel like I am running out of options.  Why is it progressing so fast?  Is there something I am doing wrong?  I am on about every immune suppressive I think they can safely mix at one time... could we be fighting the wrong thing?  What else causes joint pain and inflammation and responds great to prednisone?

Hi Theresa,
I could almost ditto your entire post ! I am only just starting all of this(was just diagnosed 1 mnth ago) They have me on 10mg Pred. daily, but i am still having flares. If i do anything at all with my hands, i start swelling. Going back to Rheumy this am, to see whats up. My whole career depends on my hands totally,so i feel very lost right now. I also want to know why it seems to be progressing so fast. Can't be doing something wrong, just trying to live normally, right? I feel like the predisone isn't really doing it for me. After reading your post this am, i figure they will probably up my dose too. Let me know how you do, okay? Take care, Joy

Man, I'm so sorry to hear that! I wonder -  the weather is so darn awful maybe it is overpowering the prednisone? Do you have any food allergies? I know my joints flare something awful when I have dairy - no matter how much med I'm on, I still get hit if I go dairy (that's one of my problem foods.)

I hope you both feel better soon.

Oh Bloo...

Even when I was on the pred...I still had some of my flare..Go figure! so my doctor says to call and they will increase my dosage? yikes and no thanks!!! I'm sorry you are already taking so much of it and still feeling crummy:( I will be getting my MTX when I go in on the 3rd and I have no idea what that will entail.

I have often wondered what else could cause this too..and have spent much time looking for info, only to find nothing.

If you are not feeling better, please go back in and try something else. I finally had to get proactive and just tell my doctor that what we were doing wasn't working, so now I am on the pred. It only took me 15 months to finally get pred!

Also, you need to slow down and rest, if you have over done yourself, it only makes it worse, it has taken me a long time to realize that as well.

Please feel better.

I can relate. I seem to be having a flare. The Pred. seemed to help for the first 3 weeks but now many of my joints are very painful. I am afraid to call the Rheumy because he will probably want me to up the pred. and I do have some annoying side effects. I have an appointment on the 3rd and don't know if I can wait that long. I know he would give me some pain killers but they usually just make me throw up. I need to work and I can't function on them. I have been doing my stretching and walking, this seem to help some. I just don't know what to do. I feel frustated that I don't really know what is wrong with me other than Osteoartritis and some kind of inflammatory artritis. Thanks for letting me vent. I know I haven't helped you out with your concerns. It does help to know others are feeling the same.
