Hi there and welcome! I'm sorry to hear about your knee pain - have you been to the doctors yet? Did you have an accident (or severe tackle during a game) that may have inujured your knee? How long has the popping and pain gone on?  For arthritis, they will do some bloodwork and x-rays on the joints to see if anything shows up. For an injury, they may need to do an MRI to see if you have torn anything in there.

You're too young to have knee problems like this, but it is not unheard of. Depending on what the problem is will depend on the treatment.  There are some exercises that help strengthen the muscles around the knee that are supposed help certain knee problems.

I hope you get the help you need - but, football is a rough sport, especially on the knees (I'm sure you don't want to hear that).....don't put off getting this checked out and figured out- risking this getting worse.

Take care.

I tried MonaVie hearing that it was supposed to be great stuff. It made me ill.

Sunset is right - pool workouts are great non-impact, resistance and strengthening workouts.

I was diagnosed with JRA at age 11 and I'm now in my 30's.

Hey MonkeyMan.. When does the popping happen? You said that it only hurts when your knees pop, right? And then you can't stand or walk on them? What causes your knees to pop? Is it a certain type of motion, or do they just do it on their own at times?

Hey CaMama - I deleted SunsetRose's comment's 'cause she was just a spammer selling her product.. plus she had made a rather rude remark, so instead of editing it, I deleted it.. :)

Hi Monkeyman, I was just at the Physical therapist for my back, but he noticed my knees were popping when I did certain exercises.  He massaged the thigh muscles above the knees and showed me exercises to do in order to distribute the weight properly.  Dang if they don't feel better.  Maybe your football trainer can show you how to distribute the weight on your knees better.  I have five brothers who all played football.  I can imagine how much you love the game.  Hope you figure it out.  Hunnybunny

doh! I must have skipped her rude comment! I was wondering what kind of doctor or even person would suggest a $45 bottle of juice to a kid!!! (By the way, I didn't buy any - someone selling the stuff wanted me to try it and gave me a free one - I had to toss half of it because it made me so ill.)

My husband had an injury to his knee a few years ago and that is why I was wondering about Monkeyman doing the same thing. Hubby's knees would pop then suddenly lock in place and it was the most painful thing, his knees would also tighten up ...something about the tendon being too tight and pulling his knee cap off track.... they ended up doing a lateral release while in surgery for his miniscus and THAT was and awful thing for him to recoup from.  Not trying to scare you Monkey, I"m just trying to point out and urge (okay nag!) you to see a doctor and have them check it out.
