I was searching for a link to an article I downloaded last year in .pdf format and found this wonderful article. It's a little old, published in the April 2005 issue of the Journal of Arthritis & Rheumatism, but I thought it gave an excellent explanation of all the processes involved in pain.

What really caught my eye was this statement, in the section regarding the treatment of the pain.
"To date, pharmacologic treatments, such as simple analgesics and nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs, have been the main focus of rheumatology pain management. Rheumatologists, in general, are not experienced in the management of chronic pain beyond this simple paradigm."

This is exactly why I think it's so important that those of us suffering with pain that is not being effectively treated by our Rheumies need to seek help from a qualified Pain Mgmt Doc.

Here's a link to the article. I hope it'll work.

Ducky, were you able to access the file? I posted this somewhere else and got told that it wasn;t accessible without a subscription. I need to figure out how I got in there and fix my link. But first I have a Doc's appt, so anyone interested can check back later tonight.

Sorry.

It seems that everything works right at 4am. LOL Maybe it's only accessible to those with insomnia. ROFL.

I'll figure it out later. Let me know if you get anywhere with it.
Thanks.

OK, I got it. When you get to the page, it clearly states that you can purchase the article for $25. What's not very clear is that it's accessible with a free registration which takes less than 3 minutes to complete. I'm copying the article into a text file and can emai lit to anyone who does not want to register. Just send me an email and let me know you want the Rheumatic Pain article.
