Hello, I am a new member looking for some advice about Ankylosing Spondylitis which I was diagnosed with 2 1/2 years ago. I am taking Embrel and Methotrexate along with the usually pain medication Hydrocodine.

I am also on Gabapentin & Tramadol for my neck pain.

I am a very active business owner who also walks and swims. The last two months I have been so fatigued I do not want to do anything. I am not always in severe pain however my doctor tells me that this fatigue is a cycle and should pass. He calms that just because I am not in severe pain does not mean my body is not going through something with this disease. I have just gone to the doctor to review my latest test results and "all" came out fine. What I have found is that if I take my pain medication I am fine for about 1-2 hours however, I do not want to live on pain medication.

I would like to know if anyone else has this same issue with severe fatigue and what have you done about it?

I would also like to say that I respect each and everyone of you who have this disease and lead as normal of a life as you can.

Thank you for your support

Have your iron levels been checked? Anemia is usually associated with many forms of arth. Are you taking a multi-vitamin?

Thank you for your reply, blood test show all levels are great. I do not take a multi-vitamin however, I drink protein shakes twice a day and eat very good types of food. It is very frustrating. Thanks again.

welcome fatigue and sry to hear about your illness. yep i remeber a bout last summer when i couldnt drive far as i was afraid i was going to fall asleep at the wheel!
not to be personal but do u snore??? sleep apnea is very common among peps and untreated the constant o2 deprivation causes sever daytime fatigue. if all blood work is good you may want to try a sleep study? but fyi mine came out normal (i had one) and eventually the fatigue passed? i am not nearly as tired as i use to be and frankly due to pain i rarely sleep. that might be an issue too? good luck in your search for answers ad keep us posted on how you are doing.

Thank you for your reply, that is what is wierd, I sleep like a rock, only to get up and do my business. I am confused because when I take a half a pain pill (Half so not to get loopy) I do not feel tired for 1-2 hours. I do not want to live on pain pills. I am glad to hear that it passed becasue that is what my doctor told me too. However it has been two months and still the same. While pain is only moderate, like a 5 out of 10.

do u snore? rocks snore! lol sleep apnea feels like a good sleep? idk? just a possibility, or it is the autoimmune thing which i think was my case and it is better but it was HORRIBLE last summer. i know what u mean by loopy, thats why i dont take my pills for pain. dont like the ride i go on.

anyway it could be a number of factorslike the adjustment to the meds like mtx and embrel, or the auto immune thing or maybe even the apnea? sry i dont know what caused mine or what made it go away but it did get much better.

when do u take the mtx? at bedtime? weekends?  do u take your folic acid?

I sure hate that you are having to deal with fatugue,it sucks when no matter what you do you feel as though you can't put one foot in front of the otrher. There are alot of meds that can and does cause fatigue.I know what you mean about not wanting to live on pain pills, pain pills can make you fatigue as well.I hope that you get over the fatigue.
