Hi,

I've just found this site... hoping I can get some tips from others that suffer like me!

I went holiday to Lanzorate last year, suddenly had a pop in my legs whilst sunning it up...suffered incredibly with swelling of knees and pumping feeling in my calves.  Couldn't do anything til I got home....well I had several diagnosis varying from overwalking to snapped hamstrings! lol!!!  Well eventually I got referred to someone that knew what they were talking about, and diagnoised it as Reactive Arthitis, he gave me a jab of cortizone, fantastic, worked pretty quick....had no problems until I rode on my bike 2 weeks ago and again pop in my knees and have since had swollen knees and painful legs again!  Went to my doc hoping that he would just give me the same jab, instead he gave me 80mg of Depo-medrone... is this the same kind of thing anyone know??  Maybe I'm being impatient, but i'm really suffering after 3 days!!  Looking at everyone here, i don't seem to have it has bad as others (you poor poor things).  Any tips or advice for a fairly newbie to this....and does this mean it will pop up every now and again then?  I just thought it was a one off!!

x

hey chezabelle,
welcome to healing well!  wow, it sounds like you do really need a good work up by a rheumatologist or infectious disease physician.  i can understand a knee failing on a person...but to have it spread to various parts of the body isn't normal.
it may be a reactive arthritis.

did you both recently have a virus or some infection of some sorts?

what type of blood work have you had done?

if the steroids are helping...it leads me to believe that it's a good probablility that it's inflammatory related (which is good for a diagnoses, gives the docs a path to follow).
are the pains effecting both sides of your body? like both knees or both hands, etc...

definitely pursue this if you feel it's getting worse. reactive arthritis's and RA and other autoimmune arthritis' can be successfully treated, the earlier the better.
{ice packs help me a lot especially with my knees.}
best wishes!

Hi Erin,

Thanks so much for advice...been to my mum's for the evening to try and cheer myself up. Well....i've now sat down and done a diary of the things, so I can take it to the rhuem guy, when appt comes through hopefully in a couple of weeks time... it started 21st July, I had severe stomach cramps and anything I eat just went straight thro me... a friend had this too. So it was a virus that triggered this off defo! 22nd July, I did a bike ride and had severe pains in both legs (just above the knees) going upto the upper thigh. Ijust thought i'd over done it...but then all the signs came to me, in both ankles and legs throbbing and swelling behind the knees. Had my injection on 7th Aug, helped with swelling, but then 19th both my wrists started to ache... next day my fingers, then 21st my back went, literally couldn't move. Last night a sore throat started, and still today..... I've just tried supports on both wrists wonderful!!! Yes, peas are frequently coming out...!

I must add that i've had a very close grandparent pass away on 20th July, marriage not great and work is crap.. so my life is quite poo at the mo!!! i'm wondering if this all could be stress related as well..
Thanks ever so much
x
