Since this last bout with illness I seem to have gone into a bit of a flare.  My jaws and feet and hands are worst affected.  But the jaws are the most annoying and painful.  Talking, chewing even just sitting still they ache and feel so tight.  Anyone have any tips on what to do to improve this?

I hate when my jaw acts up like that.

Get a washcloth, soak it in HOT water. Stick it in a ziplock baggie and use it as a heating pad. Or use a hot water bottle if you have one. The moisture and heat, according to my PCP, is better than a plain old heating pad.  I've found it beneficial in the past.

Good luck.

Hey BabyBloo,

well sometimes when my Jaw acts up like that , I try to do these excersises specifically for the jaw, losen them up...I will try to decribe it best as I can...

first I take my tongue, and put it underneath inside my front teeth, the tip of the tongue should bend naturally under the back of your front teeth..causing the Tense Jaw to drop naturally...it hurts at first, but by doing so, it helps losen the tense muscles and at the same time it lesens the pain, and using Ice Packs & heat helps in addition..

Also when my Jaw acts like that...I dont chew anything, i just consume soups and things that do not require any chewing...and try to avoid sipping things with a straw, sometimes it makes it worse...

Here is a website, for some Jaw excersise's, hope this helps!!!

Thanks you two.  I did decide to not chew anything for several days.  I helped actually when I was sick and could not eat I noticed it was much better.  Hmmm.

I will work on the jaw exercises and have decided to stop eating foods that require a lot of chewing and stop talking so much... LOL.
