Hi Everyone,
Just wondering, i haven't drank any alcohol since Ra diagnosis and was never a big drinker other than in my college days haha!  My meds are listed below.  We are going to a wedding soon and was wondering if anyone has had a few glasses of wine with the methotrexate and Plaquenil ?  I am so paranoid of liver and kidney damage with all these meds and this is actually my biggest fear since diagnosis.  I don't want to skip meds because the RA is defenitely not under control yet.  Also, can anyone recommend what type of exercise is best.  I used to walk and bike and since Dx I've put on weight (steroids don't help).  I was thinking of trying swimming?  I got the results from last set of xrays and my back is in terrible shape.  I have a fear that i will wake up one morning and not be able to walk.  The only good news is that i was approved for long term disability benefits through work.  If any one has any answers it would help and if not thanks for letting me vent.

I think u should be ok, as long as u dont mix the pain killers up with the wine.....LOL soo take ur meds but on the day of the wedding becuasre that u dont take ur painkillers...

although im not a drinker neither, but i have drank while taking my meds, and i did also take a pain killer, basically i didnt need much alcholol to feel a buzz....i think with the meds mixed in, it def intensify the feeling of being slightly buzzed alittle quicker...However i do get my blood work monthly, and i havent had any problems with my liver functions.....So i think its safe to go to the wedding and enjoy urselfs...Besides if u ahvent drank since ur Diagnosis, then well go ahead have fun, but just dont drive......

My rheumy's rule of thumb when it comes to alcohol and MTX - one or two drinks in one week is fine. If I plan on splurging ie: holiday party, wedding, etc, then I am to skip my dose of MTX for that week only. I rarely drink now, but always keep that in mind.

What I wouldn't suggest is getting a blood test directly after 'indulging' - your liver enzymes might read higher than normal and it may well be from the alcohol, not necessarily from the med's.

Go to the wedding and enjoy yourself, it's really a matter of using your own judgement.

Just because we're on these 'lovely' meds, doesn't mean we have to stop living completely (again, words from my rheumy).
